Why doesn't GM do engine badges any more?
Back in the day, and Dodge and Ford still do it, you'd have your engine displacement or series plastered all over your car. Even if it was a 305.
My 6.2l silverado has nothing on it to distinguish it from a 5.3. My Camaro, the same. Why do you think they quit doing this? I think it sucks that they don't. |

I think badges like these go out of style cuz ultimately no one (very few) really cares. It's the same as clock speeds for processors. It's important, but the results are far more important.
Most people don't know what the numbers mean or reference anyway. Chevy prob looks at not using them as a way to save a few pennies or an astetic choice to not have badges everywhere. I think the side cowl area is a nice spot for badges, go an add something their myself in the future but it won't be based on any engine specs.

GM took a lot of care in designing the Camaro. You'll notice there aren't a lot of badges on the rear of the vehicle. With the Mark of Excellence on some Camaros, special edition packages, trims, the Rally Sport, and available vinyls, there's a lot of action on the Camaro. Do we really need another badge on every car? Can you imagine the cost? For every little badge, GM could be paying a few cents. A few cents per hundred thousand cars becomes a lot of dollars. With all the cost-cutting GM had to do with this car to compete with alternatives, there's no room for unnecessary badging. Some people like that stuff, but it isn't for everyone, so why should GM make the extra expense?

personally I prefer not to have to clean and wax around all the emblems. gives a much cleaner look. Besides I like to keep people guessing whats under the hood lol

Probably because its at best meaningless, and at worst misleading.
For example, in the Camaro there are 3 different 6.2L engines used: the LS3, the L99, and the LSA. Sure, if you know your stuff you can figure out one a particular car has. But then again ... if you know your stuff, a badge isn't going to help. Now, consider the Impala. Its 3.9L engine was replaced with a 3.6L. If you only kinda know about cars you'd think this was a step backwards. But in reality, it was a big step forward. Quote:
