Also...try racing a '69 camaro straight 6 against a new V6 camaro, and tell me which one feels like it's going backwards.

Again.. You have to look at the whole car, not just one thing..

It's like wondering why people are getting bigger/smaller without talking about diet or lifestyle. It doesn't make sense.

Though are new cars really that much safer than the old steel tanks? i'm pretty sure an old classic would run straight through a modern car lol.

Kind of interesting to see the curve here.

You also have to remember how far performance fell in just a few years with the emissions chokehold on HP. Do you remember when a Z28 had only 220 Hp? We are just now getting back to the performance of the late 60s. Plus now cars will handle as well as go in a straight line.

Actually, no.. There are a couple videos from Chevy and other places showing newer cars being flung in to older cars.. While one would think the older metal frames would cut right through the newer ones, that's actually not the case. New chassis design and safety mechanisms allows for higher survival rates on crashes... Hell, just look at the crap people on this very site have walked away from..

I wish they'd make a stripped down camaro, speed oriented.

take a LS3 SS and take all the "technology" out of it, leave it with minimal safety systems (air bags and seatbelts). Take of the bling wheels and get some nice light 17s or 18s on it with some tires that hook up. Yall know where I'm going.
gear it down substantially, i dont need a 175 mph car, i want a 130 mph car that can get there faster. It takes my camaro like 3/4 of a mile (maybe more) to get over 160.

Call it the Z28 and sell me one!

That too, but way over priced is worse. When I raced sport bikes I was not scared to take my race bikes out for Sunday morning rides .

425 HP from a 427 was very good by 1969 standards but would not be very impressive today.

The Stock 2010 Camaro makes 422 HP from 378 CI

The Yenko was kinda like the GT500 of today: take a lighter car and put more HP in it and brag about how great it is. (Sorry Ford fans, until Ford mans up enough to post a Nurburgring time your GT500 is just a drag car) With the increasing popularity of autocross and weekend road-course racing, straight-line performance is becoming less important.

To compare apples to apples you would need to compare the Yenko to some of the aftermarket conversions such as the Livernois car that ran a 9.8 quarter mile.

In 1971 a 500 cu in Pro Stock ran mid 9s at best, now they have a ZL1 street-able car that can do the same thing while running an air conditioner and listening to the radio.

I would say they have come a long way with technology.

Add 1000 lbs to the Yenko and see what kind of a slug you have. You'd be lucky to be in the 14's. They were neat cars back then but not in today's league by any stretch!

indeed, but thats a problem with modern cars, materials are a heck of a lot lighter, but cars are a heck of a lot heavier
