check your posts again. YOU are the one thats wrong. I used to own an LS1 Camaro AND a 96' LT1 camaro so youre arguing with the wrong guy. I never got either one dynoed and only took the LT1 to the track. There is more than enough info out there to support the FACT that the LS1 made roughly the same power as the vette version. Surely you cant be THAT clueless

Sorry it this is a dumb question...but I always heard about this "intentionally under-rated factor horsepower" stuff as being from the 60's, early 70's...Didn't that all change to some sort of new "correct" standard for all makes at some point in the 70's or early 80's? I thought that game was over long ago?...thanks

Agreed, and in fact, I'd put it above both the GN and Termi in terms of grossly under-rated power.

Amen! I was attracted to the new Camaro by its looks and styling - it is absolutely beautiful and has some very cool features. The fact that it puts me back in my seat pretty good is just a bonus.

Park my butt in a Gen5 Camaro anyday over the fastest Mustang out there.

Even my neighbor who is a die hard Ford guy with a GT says my car looks and rides much better that his GT, he was even drooling over the new ZR1, he is not as impressed with the GT500.
What I see from reading this thread is there sure seems to be a lot of sour grapes crying going on about the GT500. You guys are fans of the Camaro, that's great, why not just sit back and enjoy it. Who cares if the Shelby is faster, I didn't purchase one for that reason, quite simply, I happen to really like the car.

I've personally had the chance to drive the SS and there are things about the car that I like and a few things I absolutley hate. As far as its ride being better than the Mustang, I certainly don't see it and looks are completely subjective.

For the record, a lot of Mustang GT owners seem to go on about how they're not impressed with the GT500, I think its a jealousy issue, too funny.

You should see what the 4th Gen F- body owners say about us. Its along those same lines. I used to have a 4th gen and I give those cars alot of respect but I get very little if any in return.

You are mistaken.

There are a few Camaro5 members who are already out there enjoying theirs.

You would know this if every last GT500 thread wasn't crammed into a single 100+ page MEGA thread tucked away from everybody's eyes all the way down in the [Other Car discussion] section.

I believe you, its hard for me to understand why some people get so wrapped up in the "mine is better than yours" crap. I am far from a brand loyalist, I show respect across the board, even those fart can rice burners get a little. Considering I grew up in the muscle car era of the 60s & early 70s then lived through the dark times of the smog motor when I thought we'd never again see a car capable of putting you back in your seat, having present day muscle cars like the Camaro, Mustang, Challenger and Charger is a terrific thing, we could all be driving a Prius for Gods sake!

MauriSSio...Sorry, man...I shouldn't have called one of your posts stupid. I apologize sincerely. The LS1 in the Camaro and the LS1 in the Corvette carried totally different part numbers for heads, cams and other peripheral engine items. The engines are not identical, but as you said, the output is "ROUGHLY" the same but always lesser in the Camaro. Over and out.

Bumping for a 2013 Shelby running 10.8 (corrected) with only DRs and a tune and hitting 179mph on the nurburgring..................

after 3 years of excitement over a potential "Z-28" I am thinking I am going to pass on the mid 12 second ZL1 and jump ship to Ford

Sucks to do but brand loyalty isn't everything , you wouldn't order Dominos if Papa Johns had better pizza just because your family ordered Dominos for years...................
