A group of us were out 4-wheeling nearby and stopped by for lunch at Margaritas. Not recommended - BTW. Service was good, but the food was pretty lame.

Tombstone has a special place in my heart. For years, a group of us has helped local ranchers and AZ Game and Fish on Adopt-A-Ranch projects. Nice to learn some history and how hard these guys work. As a side benefit, they tend to keep more gates open for outdoor enthusiasts. Another benefit was getting to know the owner of the Rose Tree Inn. Ended up getting married there and had our reception at Big Nose Kate's Saloon.
Very early, I got to Tombstone at 9 AM when everything was opening up. It was a long day out on the road, I spent about 2 hours in Tombstone before heading through Bisbee. From Bisbee I went up US191 to Safford, US70 to Globe, SR77 along the Gila to Winkleman, SR177 to Superior and finally the US60 home. I travel for a living and love heading out to the open road and these historic old towns, I have a soft spot for Oatman and Route 66 especially. I've done pretty much every road in the state this year. Basically I have the Navajo Nation and the Coronado Trail left to go for a complete the Arizona roundtrip.

Hey, man... we're really looking for pics of your CAMARO in Tombstone!

Only kidding...! I dig Tombstone. It's been a few years since I strolled though there... looks like a lot has changed! The one guy in front of the Bird Cage seems to have moved to the left about four inches since I was there. Other than that, though... pretty much the same!

I loved Boot Hill... there's a headstone there (which I think has been replicated at Disneyland, and has been shown in movies, I am told...) that reads:

"Here lies Lester Moore,
four slugs from a .44.
No less,
No more."

I asked the ranger there if that was "fer reals," and she confirmed it... said it was legit, showed me pics of that headstone inscription from "back in the day."

Tombstone is very cool, and worthy of road trips. Nice drive... not even too hot out there, either, in spite of looking like desert, the temps are pretty decent year- round. I gotta get back out there soon... you've inspired me!

I doubt if I will ever go there, so it is neat to see the pictures you have taken. I will be on the look out for your next series.

Actually I was up at the Tonto Natural Bridge with the Arizona All Gens Group the day before. Had I even gone in my Camaro I would have put in the Photos section. I'm going to try to put together a Camaro Run down there in July and see if the Tucson folks want to join. I figure if we get there at 9 AM we can park at the O.K. Corral no problem and it would look BAD ASS!

The interesting thing about Tombstone is that is about 4,500 feet up, that's why its so cool up there. Tucson is at 2,900 feet and Phoenix is at 1,200. The reason these folks lived in the mountains when the area was first settled was not only mining but the temperature was somewhat tolerable.
