while i agree with most of your post, the difference in power and acceleration between the ZL1 and GT500 is like an old LT1 camaro vs a 5th gen camaro (almost 10mph trap speed difference)

Let's be realistic, they came out with every bullet they had in their gun, that allowed them to arrive in the mid-$50K price range. GM could make more power (a la ZR1), but the mill would add alot more money to the car, and then they'd be spending boatloads of cash re-calibrating chassis and re-durability-testing a car that they just FINISHED spending all those development dollars on.

One thing to remember, and it is very important, the GT500 is Ford's top dog. Chevy is limited to what they can do and what they can charge due to the Corvette. Ford can do whatever they want and charge whatever they want, hence the $65k+ price tag for the fully optioned model of the GT500. If GM was to do this, they would eat into sales of the Corvette creating a zero sum game. Not using this as an excuse as the '13 GT500 has completely dethroned the ZL1, however, it is something to keep in mind.

I love the GT500, but it will not compete on a track with a car running 285 series front and 335 series rear Pilot Sport Cup tires. Z07 package Z06s give the ZR1 a run for it's money.

Tho i love the Zo6 it is quite the hand full on the track. The average guy that car will him to the lil boys room for a quick change of under garments

The funny thing is 99% of those that buy either one of these beasts will never know how to or actually drive them to their full potential...lol it really comes down to chest thumping and bragging rights on the internet. The Mustang looks badass and is a little quicker than the ZL1...good for Ford on this round and good for us because we all win with the Pony car wars.

My 2SS still scares the crap out of me when the nannies are off so this bantering is actually comical.

But, personally I would like to see both cars run at a track neither has been to. Maybe they could race them at Willow Springs or something. MotorTrend usually does a good job with these tests. They will have a pro drive both cars back to back and give his impressions and lap times. These cars are so hard to come by. I don't know if any media venue has been given either one of these cars for an extended time period

I want to see same track same day good driver personally. I like the reviews of the bilstien setup so far on the GT500.

the times ran on the VIR day where the ZL1 ran 2:52 seemed fast across the board. so when people compare the 2:58 lap the GT500 did it was different driver different day magazine raced. it seems likeit will have to be faster for sure int he strait sections and they claim to have more grip so the thing should move out.

I really like the 2013 GT500 it is my wife that thinks it blows ha ha.

to me this reminds me of the Viper vs ZR1 arguments. both are sweet cars both have pluses and minuses but the children of the internet have to have one be better than the other rather than just accepting there both sweet. my 3yr old has more integent things to say than I see some people post about these car on the internet.

It's definetly not a car for the novice, but if you respect it's power it's a very rewarding car to drive on the track. Have you driven one on a track before ?

But...if you think a 505 HP Z06 is a "hand full", what do you think a 662 HP 3800 lbs GT500 would be, with even smaller tires...trying to keep up with a Z06 ?
