i think damn near anyone would be shitting bricks happy with just a base model. i got my ss knowing the 5.0 and challenger were both faster vehicles, but on the street the ss is plenty to weave your way through highway traffic.

if i was planning on competing at the strip and or on a course, none of the current pony cars would be ideal anyway.

Coming from someone who likes both cars (though I chose to order a 13 shelby) both cars are awesome. And 95 percent of us won't even use either to its full performance. Everyone should stop caring whose car is better and blah blah blah.

Be thankful there is a hp war that makes these manufactures design this cars to compete with the best of Europe and make it affordable as well. In the end its the consumer (you and me) who wins.

Just pick the car that calls to you the loudest and don't look back. Its that simple. If you are passionate about your choice, then you didn't make the wrong one.

I love Camaros...but I'm not going to deny that the mustang is also a very nice car...and if it wasn't for the camaro community I might just be driving one...

Stock vs stock. Modding ruins the debate as anything can be modded fast.

the zl1 only outperforms the 2012 shelby at VIR and I guess then all road courses though BARELY. As far as everything else its the same. Can't fight physics. But again all this talk is completely and utterly irrelevant.

In your life please provide me with an approximate amount of times that you have been on a road course or on a time attack track. The ZL1 has an AWESOME suspension setup, and yes it handles well. But the numbers do not lie. Give it time... Wait for the comparo's.

Me a road course ZERO........... Me a drag strip ZERO......... Most people will never do either one but they still enjoy the fact their car can perform at high levels in these venues. How many people drive their Range Rover off road? None of that has anything to do with anything. The ZL1 is a great track car, and so is the Boss and their are people who are into that but don't race. What does the ZL1 do on a the track........... hmmm let me think??? Well how about its time at the Ring or how about the fact it beat the GT-R's time around VIR?? I think in the next Gen of muscle cars you will see a greater emphasis placed on the cars overall performance. Me I like straight line stuff, but being a star on the track is a good thing too. The Mustangs is fast I am not taking anything away from it. I just don't think it will beat the ZL1 on the track.

I heard the GT500 is built in Sudan, by the Fuku tribe. I told them about this trivia in C5 and they said, "Who cares where it is built, we built it and it is like King Kong, it eats the Camaro like a banana!"

that what i said about the 500 being half-assed and only good for a straight line at limits without the perf. and track package will likely never be proven wrong, haha. thats why i felt safe with what i said. that and i believe there is truth to it as well.

I think it's gonna be close on the road course. You won't have to deal with the lack of traction of either car or the torque managment. Furthermore, the ZL1, while weighing more, still has a much larger contact patch and perfect weight distribution. I wouldn't discount it just yet. If you bought a ZL1 for street encounters, you bought the wrong car. Both cars are amazing and both are exceeding my expectations on every level. I'm so happy with my GT right now, I can't even imagine what I would be feeling if I had a ZL1 or a GT500.

Come on man. 2013s are about to roll out, there won't be any changes. Why would you compare a brand new performance car to a 3 year old one? The new breeds came out 2 months apart. That argument is weak.

And you have to take into the account even though the z06 has less hp it weighs like 600 pounds less. So for the shelby too blow past everything and get to z06/z07 levels is just amazing given how the z07 is now I think 110k or so?
No doubt....the GT500 is the real deal.
Model year 2006, the first year for the Z06 (and the year I own) is the lightest car of the current C6 lineup. Later Z06's got a tad bit heavier as sound deadning and other features/enhancements were added.....1LZ cars being the lightest and least expensive package regardless of model year.

That being said, there's no more than 50 lbs or so between the lightest and heaviest models....2013 advertised curb weight of the Z06 is 3175 lbs.
Fully loaded Z07 equiped cars are right around $99K USD......a super limited edition model might touch 100K, but nothing remotely close to 110K.

Should be a lot of fun racing the new GT500 this year.....I have a few future owners who are gunning for me this season.

Last time I checked it turns pretty well to. A GT500 driven hard will pull over 1G no problem. Heck my 2011 GT500 with SVTPP did that.
