To be fair, I believe I only launched around 3500 rpm, and slipped the clutch really quick.

I believe advance trac was on sport, and LC was on..

but there was an initial chirp and she went..

I hate to keep saying it, but I'm like the WORST guy Ford could have delivered one of the first gt500s too because I'm timid. I'm coming from a car that traps 100.8 as a personal best, to this thing

So, I'm NOT taking it to the track right away, I'm not giong to post 0-130 mph flybys on the road etc...

I'd LOVE to, because I would have LOVED to have gone out and on my first day, been solidly in the 11's with no affiliation to anyone, just a 100% stock time from a average at best driver

The ZL1's MR suspension is a major upgrade for the camaro. And it definitely pays off here.

So until the shelby can post something faster, my conclusion is the ZL1 has the better suspension and handling.

Agreed. Camaro has better suspension; how else do you turn a 2 tonne Nellie into a ballerina?

Don't worry. LOWDOWN will be in here soon to talk about how the "puny" 285's (as he keeps saying) have somehow succeeded on the strip but they will never allow it to be fast on a roadcourse... "It's just a one trick pony"... LOL...

There is not a doubt in my mind when these two cars go at it on a roadcourse, same day, same driver, same conditions, the Shelby will flat out blow the ZL1 away just like it does everywhere else...

It's just too fast, plain and simple... Combine that with all the other upgrades,,, forget about it...

Screw the 1/4 mile times. We all knew what this thing would do for a while now. I wanna see this thing take on a road course.

EVERY SINGLE claim by all the naysayers have been squashed...

NO WAY this thing will be less 70k LOL. Turned out cheaper than the ZL1...

NO WAY this thing will put it's power to the ground... Mid 11's right out of the box...

NO WAY those puny 285's will be enough... It will just sit there and spin. See above...

NO WAY this thing will handle a roadcourse... Be ready to be heart broken...

And why the heck not? It's the reason I'm buying the ZL1. I'll be taking it to the road course so I want the best all around car in my price range.

Shelby's 2 position dampers vs. ZL1's MRC? The ZL1 will be extremely difficult for the 2013 shelby to beat on almost any road track. We've seen some road course times for the ZL1 and they are pretty damn good. So we know its not just hype or theoretical.

I actually do want to take a second to thank you for posting that.

I'm SO damned sick of seeing people talk about how the GT500 (and ZL1) for that matter can be made so much faster on the strip by buying a SS or a GT and modifying it.

Well, I must be crazy, but I would imagine the money saved on a GT and a SS could just as easily dominate the ZL1 and GT500 at the same price point on a track.

I'm a Camaro fan and all, but I would take any one of those GT500s. Especially the dark blue one.

Were any numbers released?

Everything you just posted is 100% correct!

Al Oppenheiser where are you???? Can someone post videos of the zl1 owning a naturally aspirated boss 302 around the track again to stop the mayhem!!!

MRC is superior to the GT500 suspension, but 660hp is VASTLY superior to 580 and 3850 lbs is superior to 4150 lbs. I wouldn't just assume the zl1 is faster on track simply because its suspension is superior. The acr viper beats the MRC equipped vettes, does it not? MRC is not a magical unicorn. The GT500 is going to be a LOT faster in the straights and should have no problem braking shorter considering the 2012 brakes just as short as the zl1 and the 2013 has better brakes. That's going to be some serious ground to make up in the corners. The gt500, especially with the new suspension, won't be a dog in the corners. The question is, is MRC really superior enough to overcome the massive difference in a straight line? That is yet to be seen.

Very true. I guess the point I'm making is that we've seen some really great times from the zl1. We'll just have to wait and see if the shelby can beat it.

You forget that all the roadcourse times we have seen so far for the ZL1 are all GM times... You know the ONLY people able to get the Z into the 11's...

Your fooling yourself if you think when these two cars are tested against eachother, that the ZL1 will perform or be drivin like it was when GM did it... Am i calling GM liars? Nope. Am i calling them cheaters? Nope...

Were the ring times posted really an indication of what the ZL1 can do? Or was it what the driver could do with a car that was specifically set up for that particular roadcourse, after making TONS of laps getting to know every single turn...

I ask this question because i read that the pro driver Aaron link, made something like 40 to 50 laps around Nurbugring before he even got that time... When he wasn't running the ring in the Z, he was at home playing a simulation game of an exact replica of the Nurburgring ring getting to know every turn.

"Ring times are like any other laptimes in the world: subject to weather, chance, and the constant grinding effort of development work. Doesn’t matter if you start with a “stock” car. You can adjust camber, you can crank the toe in back until you either set a record or kill your driver, you can mess around with tire temps, you can use your datalogger to stitch together an “ideal lap” and then go run that lap. Period. No magic. No special significance. It’s a racetrack. Nothing more. Nothing less."

Did they have an excellent marketing department for the ZL1? You betchya...

If you think anyone EVER will replicate the times GM laid down at VIR or the Ring, again your fooling yourself...

When these two cars go at it same day, same driver, same conditions, there will be alot of jaws dropping around here wondering what happened...

Here ya go man...

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/02...know-that.html

"While we can understand General Motor's fixation with the Nürburgring, we're getting the slight impression that the Detroit automaker may be overdoing it when it comes to promoting its cars.

After a ton of Nürburgring-related films on the Cadillac ATS and following the official video of the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 lapping the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 41.27 seconds, GM has published the fifth installment of its ZL1 video series that gives us yet another insight on how its engineers developed the pony car on the German race track.

Perhaps the most interesting part in this latest clip is when one of GM's testers admits to playing Forza on Xbox to hone his driving skills.
"Every night I am on my Xbox playing Forza, just driving the track [the Nürburgring]. They are so accurate now, they got the graffiti on the track and literally, I mean, it really helps".
