WOW!!!! This guy lowdown has gone off the deep end. The 662hp Shelby has drivin him MAD!! No pun intended.

Mark my words and quote me later. The 2013 Shelby GT500 will greatly outperform the ZL1.

The difference between 305 tires and 285 is 3/4". The difference between the ZL1's tires in rear and the Z06's is 3/4". So the ZL1 is putting down 75 more HP than the Z06 on 3/4" less rubber, and it weighs....wait for it......920 lbs more! That Zl1 must really have to rely on it's nannies as it is getting spanked by the Z06, which is on the correct amount of rubber as opposed to the puny rear tires of the over powered ponderous, under tired ZL1.

I can't understand why the ZL1 engineers picked such skinny tires for the over powered ZL1?? The Z06 only needs 505HP. What gives??? Erik

This post stinks of sarcasm. But just in case it isn't, you do know about the huge weight advantage the vette has over the ZL1 right?

Ignore the question if sarcasm is what you were driving for.

BTW, the ZL1 was announced in Chicago, winter '11, and was run at the 'Ring, along with the ZR1 and Z06/Z07 in September '11... I'll give you a nod the times would have been a bit slower with (4) Ice 'n Snows, mounted...
'Ring times will be announced at the upcoming press day.

If Ford puts up a time that beats the ZL1, and this is a huge if as the time the ZL1 put up is very impressive, then what will be the first excuse?

Or will credit be given where due?

I don't thing the Stang will hold the road... Too much, too light too high center. And ditto Newb. I really just don't like the way the thing looks. Front end is too....something. Just not a fan. Better or not, I still would never own one.

That's why the F-350's and Suburbans keep taking all the hardware on track days. All this time you thought they were towing the race cars.

All of this talk and the fact remains that non of us know Sh** about who is going to win where until all the facts come out.

I still believe as opinion only that the ZL1 will edge out the GT500 at the ring. But, Like I said before I could car less about ring times. I'm a drag racer at heart.

I still dont get why everyone is so worked up over these two cars. You would think the ZL1 would do better on the ring it has the magnetic ride suspension and IRS BUT the Mustang is lighter and has more power and torque. It really could go either way im more interested in the match ups between the BIG 3 next gen when nobody will have a big weight advantage over the other one. Its all going to come down to who has the better engines since the weight will be about the same and much lighter and the sales will be determined by who has the better more attractive car designs.

Motorhead, my last post was merely conveying how Lowdown keeps mentioning how skinny the 2013 GT500's rears are compared to the ZL1's, and that with more power the GT500 will need to rely on it's electronic nannies so much.

I mention the Z06 because it has 325's in rear, and has less horsepower than the Z06, therefore as the 2013 GT500 has skinnier rears and more power than the ZL1, the ZL1 has skinnier rears and more power than the Z06. As mentioned in the post the Z06 is 920 lbs lighter than the ZL1.

Of course the post is sarcastic. Lowdown keeps claiming that 285 tire(same as last year) are going to grip less well with the added HP, even though the taller gears will tame it, and fully modern launch and traction control are designed to regulate the burst of HP to exactly the point where HP would overwhelm the tires.

The GT500 having too much power could be true, but no less than, until proven, then the ZL1 running on skinnier tires and more power than the Z06. Erik
