Sometimes people are buttholes, and that does not change by what they drive.

I have grown to really dislike 5th gen camaro owners. Sorry if this hurts people's feelings, but I'm gonna get this out.

In addition to the mostly pointless nonsense on the forums, my local car show has also left me annoyed. I have been going to this show for 10+ years. Since I got my 5th gen, I have continued to park with some of buddies I have made over the years, ranging from a 4th gen LT1 to an old Nova to a straight up army Jeep. We walk around the show and check out all the cars, chat, share stories, and hang out.

Then we have the 5th gen crew. They constantly wave me over to park near them when I roll in, but I snub them every time.

They gather at the show, created their own section away from everyone else. They take up more parking spaces than necessary (surprise surprise) and try to prevent others from parking in "their area". They have their own lame "5th gen" tshirts, and congregate in a little huddle like a high school clique. They don't make an effort to walk around the show or talk to others. A few of them need to start their cars and rev their awful, raspy sounding home brew exhaust. Not even the pro-street Chevelles do this. The king of their group actually has a cold air intake that he installed himself! Whoa! The appearance master of the group has a camaro that has every possible appendage and body piece converted to chrome. The car blinds people when it is sunny out. All the while, they look down and act smug towards the car show visitors that don't have muscle cars that just came to enjoy the night. As the show concludes, they incessantly rev and peel out of the parking lot, leaving on an even more obnoxious note.

Not sure what it is about this car, but this crowd is very disappointing. The 5th gen camaro is just another muscle car. It is not "better" than anything else out there, it's just another platform. Being one of the tens of thouasans of people that owns one does not put you in some sort of exclusive club. It is still just a car. Get over yourselves.
I agree with a lot of what you said. There are a lot of whiners, douchebags and people who should never have a camaro....BUT....its nothing you wont find in any car forum or car show. Keep in mind this is a public forum and anyone can be anything they want..........even someone who actually doesnt own a camaro I prefere going to smaller local shows....usually of the older classic cars with older classic people. I would never sell a car just because of the actions of a few tools. I agree a car is only steel, plastic and rubber....and was built to be driven. Nothing wrong with being proud of what you spent your hard earned cash for..........but dont be a douche about it.
I dont care if some decide to huddle in their little 'all about me' corners...they are the ones who look a fool. Enjoy your car for what it is. Have fun, and ignore those who havent matured beyond high school.

Just had something similar happen today, i parked my car where there was room, happened to be in the middle of a bunch of ricers, went and started looking at a cuda.
Someone in a fifth gen walked up and asked "why would you park your camaro next to all of those? And isn't that a mopar you are looking at?"
I looked right at him and told him i parked my car right next to other cars that people obviously care about, and if the owner of this mopar wanted to trade i would do it in a heartbeat! He looked disgusted and walked away!
I was just humbled when the guys that actually worked on there cars walked over and checked out my bought car!!

I respect your view wheelman, but its not true of all owners. Unfortunately the small crowd can give a bad image for the whole. I have witnessed your frustrations with many other cliques of cars (Mustangs, Challengers, BMWs, etc...). You will always have that issue, no matter what you're driving or where you go. For instance the the v6 vs. v8 jabbing, would fall into your views. I've seen and heard endless amounts of people (other than Camaro owners) that go why the hell would you buy a v6 and not a v8. You just have to brush it off and put people in their place if it makes you uncomfortable or frustrated. I think some people take it to the extreme when it comes to car groups, especially same model cars. I myself enjoy seeing a large group of the same car rolling down the road, but think that it's equally cool seeing a large group of awesome cars, no matter who the manufacturer. For me its the camaraderie that I look for, which sounds like thats what you're after. You just have to find the right people and everything will start to fall into place. (I also think some of these issues spark because of peoples financial status and where they live to.[They already have that superior feeling over others.])

I suppose I'm a part of a little clique in my neck of the woods. Yup we pretty much keep to ourselves too. We also have our own spots, and I do believe t-shirts are involved. As someone mentioned earier, this behavior is hardly exclusive. You honestly come across as a bit of a snob b/c you don't want to be seen w/ people who don't act exactly the same as you. How boring must your life be if you only commiserate and hang w/ like minded people?

I don't absolutely love everyone involved in the group, but I'm also not going to consider selling my car because of it. Come to think of it, I don't absolutely love everyone I've ever met in my life, so I'm unsure why a group of 5th gen enthusiasts would be different.

I understand your need to vent but it seems like whining to me. Not everyone that owns a civic is a tuner, and doesn't feel the need to sell the car b/c they didn't feel the v-tec kick in, yo. Do what you do, brother.... but drive what you like b/c you like it. If you don't like it, why drive it? Like I said, sounds like whining to me. Why do you care that much about everyone else when you're only responsible for yourself and your actions?

I'm not a relgious man but Psalm 73 always made sense to me, judge not lest ye be judged.

Its good to vent sometimes. Let it out man. IDK... I wave/hi-beam passer-bys in 5th gen Camaros... never had one seem to be a prick. Talked to 1 at a red light one day. Had a few convos the past few weeks with random people about my car/5th gen Camaro. Maybe Ive been really lucky lately. Hah, I laughed when I read the mustang comment, I laughed at someone a few months ago who said "Nice Mustang" Sorry you've got some smug people up in IL. Cant change them, so F em. You gotta do you and enjoy yourself when your at the car show. Cheers.
