thats actually a fallacious statement. The cafe reads totally different than the assumptions made here. Trucks will have a different fleet rating so will large cars, coupes, etc etc there are alot of loop holes

Not true in the law of averages..you can have an extremely efficient car on one end of the spectrum to balance out the gazz guzzler on the other end...but the types of vehicle plays a big factor into that as well..different rules for different styles..i.e. trucks etc

CAFE puts trucks as a separate fleet from cars, and in fact, CAFE is to blame for the proliferance of SUVs now. When CAFE came around, people were buying big cars; manufacturers made smaller, less powerful cars to try to meet CAFE requirements. People still wanted to drive something big so they bought trucks. Soccer moms needed full size wagons but they weren't available, so the minivan was invented, but that was so lame that they looked for something more. Manufacturers saw the trend beginning and nurtured it until it became normal for every soccer mom to drive something similar to a cap-equipped pickup.

Also the fleet average number is not based on the same numbers you see on the window sticker. The CAFE numbers are way higher than the estimates presented to the consumer.

For example, a 2009 Malibu. Its CAFE highway rating is 46.8. Its highway rating on the window sticker is 33.

I don't think it would help. I'm 55, and growing up Pontiac's catch phrase was "Pontiac builds excitement". That hasn't been true, nor has the brand been marketed that way for some time. Pontiac has little street credibility any more as anything special. I like the G8 and Solstice, but that isn't much to build a business on. As for getting a Firebird, do you really think GM would let another company have access to the Camaro platform to compete with them??

subject at hand is this, supply and demand my friend, not govt mandated cafe. If you want to talk no politics then let the free market follow trends. If it trended that way then allow it if not , tell the govt to butt out.

alright Im not focusing on you but this is a conclusion I have seen. And this is my last post in regards to this because its off topic(before we start i am middle of road, I have voted for both the last three elections) But why is it everytime a demo gets in office all the conservative start crying that everything is going to be taken away?? Granted they have put in policies to restrict things but not prohibit. There has to be some regulation, otherwise we would be like some african nations. And look what no regulation for the last 8 years, which has the car crisis what its in now
