Huh.. FAA sent me a little plastic card thingy saying I'm a licensed mechanic. No more little pieces of paper, it's just another thing to shove in my wallet.

That SPitfire story is pretty awesome.. sucks that someone can think they can use their money to bully someone else who made the discovery... and say oh i might give you somethn for them.. if I discovered a Jet fighter.. Id want to keep it myself..

Little late to this thread, but....

I grew up flying, my Dad had a C170 taildragger and we had a grass strip and hanger on the farm. I got my PPL, but I joined the Air Force as an enlisted man, so I couldn't be a pilot. I decided to do the next best thing and became a Flight Engineer. It's an awesome job, and so far I have been qualified on C-130E, H(3), "Super E", W, H model "Spectre" gunships, and currently fly the U model "Spooky" gunships. I have about 3,000 hours in C-130's, but I learn something new every time I fly. Haven't flown a Cessna in about 15 years, but I have kept an eye on private aviation and can't wait to get back into it, probably after I retire.

Great story on AZ businessman who set out to find plane crashes in the Himalayan Mountains from World War II. He describes hacking through a jungle to find the wreckage of a C-47 and how it felt like he had just found long lost pyramids. To an airplane nut thats exactly what it would feel like.

I thought I was generally knowledgeable in WWII aviation history, but I had never heard of the "hump" pilots. Talk about some brave pilots risking it all. I will remember them this memorial day.

I've have held a PVT SEL and rotorcraft ticket for 30 years. About 450 hrs total time in
Piper Tomahawk, Piper Warrior, Archer, Dakota, Arrow, C182, C172, C150, C182TRG, C177RG, C210, Robinson R22, Schweitzer 300CB, Grob 115 and a Citabria. Could be more.
Which is the most fun? The Citabria.
Which is the most challenging? The R22
Which is best when you need to go somewhere? The C210
