Looks like I'm the first Aussie to comment on this, plenty of rumors going around that after our VF model that the Commodore will cease to exist in favor of a global car, I'd love to see the Camaro properly come down here & not have to be imported & converted to RHD which adds an extra $36,000 on top of the price for purchasing the car....

And it's not that you can't share "chassis", is that they have to be different enough that it's not the "same ole cr@p" wrapped up in different body panels. A CTS-V is not a Camaro. An Audi A4 is not a Jetta, although Audi did go through some tougher years when their product wasn't all that great, and the point is that your "shared chassi" cars have to be exceptionally different.

To this point, there is no reason for a "firebird". It's the same thing. There is nothing special implied by that trim, other than it came from pontiac.

Right, the short wheel base G8/Commodore and the long wheel base Caprice/SS (look at the rear doors/last fixed side window). I assumed if they were already bringing the PPV Caprice here the mystery SS would be the same Caprice/SS wheelbase. I suppose it would all come down to US Federal certifications issues and costs: Do the PPV's have to be certified? Can the SWB and LWB versions be lumped together or would they have to be certified separately? etc., etc. Things I don't have much knowledge of but no doubt are huge factors in the decisions made.

All I have to say is GM better be very very smart on the pricing. If they go too high they will piss a lot of people off.

It will probably be similar to the Charger, give or take maybe a grand

That is about what I am hoping for. Upper $30s-lower $40s.

Yea I'm pretty sure when NASCAR released the article they said it would be in the Cup series when they changed the cars for the 2013 season.

The GXP was $37K when the AUD was 30 cents below the USD. Today the USD and AUD exchange rate is an AUD is worth 1.01 USD. A Charger SRT8 is $45K. A 5th Gen 2SS starts at $35K. Add in a sunroof, polished wheels, RS and we are at $40K.

Maybe GM has some value equation that would alter the exchange rate, but my guess is a base SS sedan will be no less than the $37K the G8 GXP sold for close to five years ago and probably more.
