Have to Give Ford Credit
I enjoyed the post on Net horsepower, honestly this really does not matter. As much as I like the ZL1, what really is going to matter is when the 3rd party folks will be putting both cars on the chassis dyno and measuring rear wheel horsepower, this is the real test. I believe we will come up significantly shy. Hats off to the Ford guys.

Owning SSes for 50 Years

I'm curious why a 650 HP Mustang is such a big deal. Shelby with the Super Snake has been making that HP and more for years with the 5.4. I can't see the 650 HP 2013 being any greater a car than the Super Snake and it wasn't all that great.

Because Ford didn't just slap a blower and pointless cosmetic bits on the car and call it a day. It's a car that is properly engineered to handle that power in every way possible, and it wasn't done by some old guy throwing big power at a chassis and putting on off the shelf brake and suspension pieces, taking the warranty away, and then charging a ridiculous amount of money for it. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised just how well the new Shelby is going to perform. Ford is not stupid enough to release their halo car and not let it live up to the hype.

While the '11/'12 GT500 solved some of their launch/handling issues over the '07-'09 cars, they are still essentially overpowered rockets on overwhelmed wheels. The Super Snakes added MORE power on top of equally overwhelmed tires. The '13 Shelby has a lot of tweaks, some more significant than others, that were added in order to make the car more 'user friendly' if you will. Regardless, we all know that with a driver like myself, both a GT500 and a ZL1 will be a smoke show with piss poor ETs

Just like the ZR1 is a big deal to have the factory performance that it does or the ZL1 for that matter. Besides everyone seems to be forgetting that the motor isn't the only improvement to the 2013 GT500. |

The GT500 will destroy the Camaro in the quarter mile it is no secret. Now since that has happened everyone on Camaro5 is shifting towards autocross because the ZL1 has a chance there. We will see how they do on both soon enough

this place isn't the only place that they're shifting that argument. to be totally honest, these cars are simply taking two different paths to the same destination. they're both incredible cars, they're both gonna be crazy fast. at most tracks, it will be a drivers race. the mustang's still better looking though. |

I don't really believe that the GT500 will destroy the ZL1 anywhere. I think it will be a drivers race with many automatic ZL1s showing the GT500 the door. These cars are too close for either to destroy the other in a far fight with good drivers.

cmon guys mustang stepped up its game big time give them the props.I personally believe gt500 is a better car for the money. With 650+hp and 600+lb/ft torque, it will crush the zl1 in the straight line for sure. Now let see how it performs on the track...

The real reason I'm tired of it, is that the GT500 (especially in the case of the 2013) is full creation of SVT. SVT deserves the credit entirely, and Shelby shouldn't have his name associated with it at all especially when all he really does these days is body kits and boost (slight exaggeration). This car IMHO should immediately revert back to the Cobra name plate. I know Cobra and the cobra symbol also have their roots with Shelby, but I believe those symbols are more associated with SVT given the Cobra and Cobra R models SVT produced over the last 20 years, and I really really really believe SVT should getting all the name recognition. I really hope that at least with the next generation Mustang they go back to Cobra. |
