Very true, but stock the 2010-2012 is like 9lbs stock I beleive, corrct me if i am wrong, (I`m no ford expert) but, if the new one is 15lbs then 6lbs of boost increase is quite a jump and would explain why it is making so much more power. Now its safe to say the 2013 will outdo the previous model at the same boost level say at 17lbs respectively but how far is this boost level on the 2013 going to be able to be increased before popping. To me it seems like Ford increased the boost to make power and added a few other goodies like increased displacement and a better blower that made a small difference but the big diff is 6lbs of boost. I could be wrong, we need more info.

So question, what does a 2010-2012 put down to the tire w/ 15lbs of boost? we can reverse the driveline loss to compare it to the 2013. I`m betting it won`t be far off, that is if we have the stock boost levels correct for the 2013 and the previous model. Now of course the 2013 will make more power due to the bigger engine, better blower, but I bet we will find it won`t be that far off.

So the moral is don`t go out and sell you 2010-2012 GT-500`s just yet...Till we know all the details

just did a google, GT-500 at 14lbs of boost, previous gen, it does have a Kenny Bell instead of the Eaton, so the Eaton would probably make a little less w/ the added heat but 643rwhp at 14lbs. This new 2013 662fwhp -12%driveline loss=583rwhp... Sounds like they will be pretty close at the same boost level especially if you are running an aftermarket blower on a 2010-2012. I really don't understand some of you Ford fans, its like all yall car about is 1/4 mile performance. GM has been focusing on TOTAL performance for years, that means more and often harder to do than just going fast in a straight line. I've said from the beginning that the camaro chasis has the most potential for a track car and The mustang for the drag strip. Kudos to Ford but I'm still not seeing the mustang being faster than the ZL1 on a road course and the tech in the ZL1 is clearly geared for the tack first and the drag strip second while having a superior everyday ride quality than any mustang period. That's nothing to scoff at, the GT 500 imo is geared for the drag strip first and the road course second. Both are good but have different priorities. IMVHO..

Oh No! 2013 Shelby Rated at 662 BHP

I mean, this race might not be that close. www.autoblog.com/2012/04/26/2013-ford-shelby-gt500-certified-at-662-hp-and-630-pound-feet/

2013 Ford Shelby GT500 certified at 662 hp and 630 pound-feet

Quote:
In the high-stakes world of performance cars, horsepower is king. It's the first stat bragged about by owners trying to explain why their Camaro, Challenger or Mustang is better than their foes', and it's the headline figure promoted by the automakers themselves year after year.

When Ford announced that the 2013 Shelby GT500 would be punishing the pavement with 650 horses, the world stood up and took notice. Remember, though, these were just estimated figures, as the car had not yet been SAE certified. If reports from the Team Shelby message board prove accurate, the 2013 GT500 has finally gotten its official figures.

How's about 662 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque?

Yep, that'll do. It's notable that these figures represent increases of 12 horsepower and 30 lb-ft over the earlier estimates, and they also put even more distance between Ford's top-performing Mustang and Chevy's 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1. It also means the Shelby lays down considerably more ponies that the Corvette ZR1 and its 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft.

Now, will we see a corresponding horsepower-addled response from Chrysler or General Motors? Only time will tell.

Ford should really bring out a Corvette competitor and put this amazing power-train in it.

One of the big differences between the 11-12 models is that the 2013 will have a carbon fiber driveshaft...

The weight savings from that will help the drivetrain loss so i don't think the drivetrain loss on the 11-12's will be the same... The 13 should be less.

most cars will be raced in a straight line. Thats the unavoidable truth. People have already taken their ZL1s to the strip but i dont know of any private owners taking them on the road courses.
and ford cares about "total performance" as well. All the makes do actually. Look at the mustang though, the 5.0 and boss are very capable track performers. The Boss is an excellent track car and is great on the strip as well. Last i checked (a few months ago) the baby brother Boss Mustang stock with only a tire were running 11.7's@117mph. Thats a good all round car if you ask me and not just a drag strip monster.

with what it has, im surprised the GT500 "only" makes 662hp. Im sure boltons pulley and a tune will do more for it than the previous GT500's

No doubt...More displacement, bigger supercharger, better cams, heads that flow as good as the Ford GT.

I could only imagine what just a 4.0 whipple swap would do to this thing.

My guess, close to 1000hp...
