No Clear Bra
I took my Zl1 to the shop today after going back & forth with this company that was recommended by the Local Ferrari club, he took a look at the car and said I dont think I want to do this car without a template.
At least he was honest and didnt ruin my car

That is understandable. There are a lot of curves to contend with and it would be a very difficult job. The problem with a template is that it may not go all the way to the edges. But still... That individual may not have been willing to do it, but I'm sure there are other more skilled installers who can do it. The ZL1 I detailed was clearbra'd from the front all the way back to the doors including the entire hood. It can be done without a template by a skilled installer.
They aren't going to ruin your car. If they can't do it then the most they'll do is waste a lot of material. Clear bra is designed to be removable, so there isn't any 'ruin' in the equation. Just make sure they are an insured shop that does the install in case they do damage the car in some other way. And make sure it is warrantied against bubbling, yellowing, and peeling. Because it is a complicated shape to work with, the installer needs to be very skilled and careful. Sloppy work will make your $500 clear bra look like crap. |

Are these templates something companies share/sell amongst each other? I mean someone has to bite the bullet and create one if every other company is going to wait for one before they work on a ZL1

My 2010 has clear bra all over it. My installer did the whole job without a template and it came out perfect. You just have to get the right guy to do it.

I just had my ZL1 clear bra put on and he had a template already. He is out of Raleigh N.C. He is very good and does many exotic cars. Also got my windows tinted. 550 for both but I may have got a break. He does all my cars and I send him business.

I have to find a reliable installer to do mines as well. Hopefully someone in TN can do it for a reasonable price.

My clear bra guy here in Hampton Roads is also waiting to get a template to do my ZL1. My understanding is that once someone has one it can be emailed to his computer and installed on his plotter. I would also love to have the name of the installer in North Carolina.

I had mine put on the ZL1 in San Antonio. The company didn't have a template, so they made one. The install took all day because of it, but the quality looks great. There were two hardly visible seems at the edge of the headlight and the quarter panel.

I was quoted $999.00 for clear bra/windows package. Hood, fenders, mirrors, bumper rear wheels. Do my garage or dealership. I just have to get them to ship my Z 1st.

Where in TN are you located? If you find one I might want to use them myself. I'm in Northern Alabama

Ouch.... That is pretty spendy. On the high end using the best materials your windows shouldn't cost more than 200 and the clear bra for bumper and partial hood shouldn't be more than 5 or 6 hundred. A grand is tacking on some serious profit. I'd shop around a little more before you hire that guy. He is gouging the dude with a 60K+ car on order. |
