Theres no other way to describe it than a scam.
I agree that monster cable is overpriced, but the most of the applications I was using it for, it was worth having compared to the thin crappy wires my friends were getting at the time. The kind that would have the RCA Jack's solder break after a whispering breeze...

I mainly used it for S-Video, and I also had some pretty beefy speaker cable, but I don't remember what kind it was. I ended up getting monster cable for all the S-Video stuff, ended up getting more for the other connections as well to be consistent.

Ohh I agree the wiring that sometimes comes with stuff, or the cheap stuff at radio shack is different and usually bad. But Monoprice, Firefold, and others offer "high end" versions of their cables that have every feature of Monster for less than 1/4 the price.

Im not going to spend 100 bucks on a monster hdmi cable when I can get the SAME thing for 15 bucks without a monster logo.......

Needless to say, I refuse to give this company any of my money and urge everyone here to do the same. If you need HDMI cables, save yourself a TON of money and buy them here: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCateg...k=hdmi%20cable
As cheap as $3 for a 6 foot cable.

Oh, and just to kick some more dirt into the eyes of monster cables, this is directly from their wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Cable_Products

Monster Cable and similar "boutique" cables are a substantial source of revenue for retailers of electronics such as DVD players and TVs. While the profit margins of DVD players and TVs may be low, the profit margins of Monster Cables and similar products provide supplemental revenue for these retailers. Employees of such retailers are trained to market and bundle Monster Cable and similar products so as to increase profitability.[5]
Nevertheless, various reviews have reported that listeners and viewers are unable to tell a difference between substantially higher-priced Monster cables and inexpensive cables.[6][7][8] In addition, some opinions differ as to whether cable quality makes a difference for short runs of digital cables, such as using HDMI cables to connect a set-top box to one's television.[9] In one experiment conducted by a customer, audiophile listeners could not distinguish between short Monster cables and ordinary coat hangers.[10] Another reviewer concluded that "16-gauge lamp cord and Monster [speaker] cable are indistinguishable from each other with music."[11]
Monster has even produced cables where their advertised premium features cannot even affect the cable quality. These items include gold-plated optical cables, where the plating has literally no use in the proper function of the cable.[12]

Some features like gold plating serve a specific purpose, Corrosion resistance. Gold is a good conductor that won't corrode, corrosion at the terminals is a common cause of the power/signal flow degradation ... That's it.

In reality, a lot of people won't hear the difference, but on Better systems (and I've built many, and some car systems well over $100K) or for instance cars with high amounts of EMI, they Definitely are worth the cost.

I still have most of my Pioneeer Elite system. I would have loved to have gone with Carver, but never pulled the trigger before he stopped making his systems.
Quality might be there as far as lasting corrosion resistance and all but I've never wore out my 10.00 cables yet. Usually just buy new ones based on whatever new application I get.

Can't be wrong for considering it overhyped and overpriced. BUT, I'll never have anything that requires whatever it is you guys need it for. NO WAY anyone is going to hook it up to a normal home or car system and be able to tell the diff.

If there is some crazy commercial or bullionare setup it makes a difference on then he or she can afford it better.

I needed a 70' optical cable once and was shocked to find that it was going to cost me 500.00 to get one. No matter where I went. I funally found some obscure little website that had lengths and so I called them figuring it was a gimmic. He gave me some story about they can get it commercially and it was so much better yada yada yada. I went out and got a prepaid visa and gave him the 19.95 plus shipping he wanted for a 70' cable. I fugiured it was worth the 25.00 or so to see what happens.

The cable got there and worked perfectly.

Some things are all hype. Monster, to me, is one of them. Because monster KNOWS that 99% of the use of them is un-necessary.

When I think monster cable, I think of back in the day when my circuit city supervisors would constantly push me to sell their loyal customers a 3' cable that cost about $69.99 as opposed to the one that cost $20.00 dollars!

I never did! Why? Because i like people (except aSSian damn fin fan! *zing* j/k )and couldn't justify selling them a product that only made a significant change! And where are the big wigs with this brilliant philosophy? Bankrupt!

Screw you monster cable!
