Toyota loss larger them GM's

Toyota announced there losses at $7.6 billion dollars. That is more then the $6 billion posted by GM the other day. They had expected a 8.6 billion lose for the fiscal year, unless sales really pickup then it appears it will be much bigger.

Funny, people seem to be all over the "GM needs to go bankrupt" "They need to cut their costs" etc, but when Toyota loses more money than GM ... silence.

I'd love to see some criticism. The automotive media definitely needs to take this and run with it—hint hint Leftlane, start writing Edmonds.

Ha. Maybe not offering a single car worthy of any excitement and producing soul-less point A to B machines is finally taking it's toll.

Really though, has anyone noticed that Toyota is the only car company (other than Kia) that is not trying to offer a single fun car? You can only ride the "we have a hybrid" train for so long.

The Supra yes. The Celica was never worth a damn.

Yeah, Toyota's losses are larger than GM's... just like their PROFITS have been larger than GM's. Starbucks profits declined by some 99% or so compared to prior years, but their profits in the years before were insane... and they're not bankrupt.

Toyota "lost" more money than GM, but they are retaining a lot more money than GM. They've had record sales for years. Toyota/Scion/Lexus are tops in sales.

If you made $50k a year, and you lost $20k in the stock market in just this past year, it would suck............................ But if I made $50M a year, and I lost $20k in the stock market - oh well. Get it?

I think the new Camry is a perfectly respectable car... doesn't look bad either.

Toyota has a reputation for building cars that you can really drive into the ground... putting many thousands of miles on them before they totally crap out.

I'll say it again...

Scions are hot cars now... Scion is a subsidiary of Toyota.

Lexus is an extremely popular luxury car... Lexus is a subsidiary of Toyota.

Toyota is a massive company that has made an amazing amount of money in the past 20 years.

GM has held on for a long time. And GM is a popular American brand... but has never had the sales that Toyota has had.

The only reason Toyota is losing sales is because of the poor economy, and people not being willing to go out and buy a car anytime soon... not because of a lack of quality or desirability. And the reporters say that Toyota is "losing" money - it's with respect to their projected goals for the quarter/year. It's not that they LOST money, it's just that they didn't MAKE the money that they were expecting to.

Toyota is the filthy stinking rich man who could care less whether the bottom falls out of his 401k or not... because he's got a shitload of money saved up elsewhere.

GM is the average Joe who is trying to hold on and ride out the storm.

And the Malibu is better in nearly every way. Waiting on reliability results ...

Many on this site would argue the same thing about Chevy's ...

I can't find any data on Scions sales. Please share them if you have it.

Lexus is an extremely popular luxury car... Lexus is a subsidiary of Toyota.
They sold fewer units in America than GM's luxury brands (Caddy + Buick) did.

What? For decades they sold more than anyone else in the world. They had a roughly 50% US market share for a while.

So, Toyota (with supposedly superior products) is losing sales because of the economy, but GM losing fewer sales last month in the exact same economy is because of poor products? And yes, Toyota is LOSING money, not simply being under their sales projection. They have more to lose, but when income is less than expenditures, its is a loss.

Toyota is the filthy stinking rich man who could care less whether the bottom falls out of his 401k or not... because he's got a shitload of money saved up elsewhere.

GM thought the same way a 20 years ago ...

GM is the average Joe who is trying to hold on and ride out the storm.
not going to dispute that
