Yup. A big difference.

Although his fear is totally unjustified.

I have also ordered a new SS for myself and I am extremly concerned about GM being around for the long term.I have had Camaro's since I learned to drive on my moms 67 but now I am really starting to think that my loyalties are misplaced considering what is going on with GM & the goverment in the US & Canada.Am I buying a car that parts will be an issue and will there be any dealers left to service it?Do I just spend twice the money and get a new M3?

I'm in a similar boat. I'll be buying a new pickup truck really soon, and until recently, my biggest problems were deciding Sierra 2500 or Silverado 2500, and Vortec or Duramax (I want to see how the fuel costs will trend this summer). I was hoping to add a camaro to the garage in a few more years (To make a nice GM garage...)

But, with all of this talk of Government ownership, I'm really concerned. I realize GM products likely wont fall off the face of the earth, but what will happen? I've tried finding articles online that are helpful, but I've come up empty handed about exactly what's going on.

Will the government have say in GM's dealings? Will they have any influence to the company outside of providing money?

How will GM's quality be affected with all of this stuff going on? Will employees have other things on their mind while putting the brake lines on???

What about resale value. I know it's a long-shot, but if there were to be no more GM, and I were to sell one of my vehicles, what kind of money would I see back? I know historically, GM's fetch decent prices on resale, but if there is no GM, I doubt people would still be willing to pay as much.

Who would service my vehicle, and with what parts (and how long will those parts be in the pipeline??)? You know how hard it is to find a decent mechanic these days???

To me, these are my main questions. I'm pretty nervous and very confused right now. I've been weighing other options out there (Ford Superduty, mainly... and I've even considered Nissan's aging Titan), but other than the fact that Ford APPEARS to be holding up well, and the fact that the Superdutys sit better (read=higher with wheels that fit the wells), the GM trucks win everywhere else.

Buy a rickshaw...

Seriously, I have had countless number of Chevy/GMC truck & vans and have never had to bring one in for warranty work. With regards to parts - there are many, many aftermarket parts so don't sweat it too much. But after all is said, you have to go with your gut... otherwise you probably won't feel comfortable.

And as was already stated - GM isn't going anywhere !!

P.S. Welcome to the site.

Let me just say this. GM could go under tomorrow and if the word was all warranties were void unless you give your car back within x amount of days. There is NO WAY in hell I would give this car up. Warranty or no warranty. This is the badest fing car I have ever seen or owned. Oh, and GM ain't going nowhere.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm sure it'll be a bad influence .

I had a 99 Silverado, and I loved her (again... only thing I disliked was the ride-height... I feel like they could be a little taller, but I've always been too wimpy to mess with the suspension... only because it rode so well).

Mechanically, it was pretty sound. It had the engine ticking (I think somebody attributed it to the lifters slapping due to some design flaw), but it ran like an ox.

The problems I did have were all electrical. The power windows were replaced 4 Times (3x driver's side... 1 time passenger). The Dash was fixed twice (Dash lights failed on one occasion, and on both occasions, the little information section (with gear selection info, odometer, etc) failed).

So, I'd feel more comfortable with the dealerships still around... hahaha.

As long as your dealer isn't an idiot and hasn't pissed off hundreds of customers and/or hasn't sold a single vehicle in weeks, they'll still be around.
