Considering a Sonic for new dd
I know its been discussed here a lot! Wanted to see if anyone on here actually owns a 1LZ with the 1.4T motor. Just curious to see what peoples opions on the car. I will be driving around 20-30 miles a day round trip, mostly highway. Are people really getting close to 40mpg's ( i know its all on how hard you drive it)
Also has anyone had any major problems yet. I really had not planned on getting an extended warranty. I plan to have it paid off next year and then get a Camaro. I will be going from a 2006 Charger to this so yeah its going to take some getting used to. After about 6 months my drive could increase to around 40-50 miles a day depending on which briefing station I am assigned to after the academy.

I've never taken a ride in a Sonic, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. I really like its styling too. You don't see too many small cars with that much attitude.

i wont be in the market for till around august. so i am doing my research now. plan to trade in the charger so i hope to only finance around 10-11k for the car. i've been reading nothing but good about them so far. kinda thinking about waiting till the 13's come out and see what the RS is going to be priced at.

I've only sat in one and it's a nice design inside, but hard plastics similar to the Camaro. I've heard really good things about them, though.

My wife has a '11 cruze with 1.4t, but auto. She averages about 38mpg with a combo of 2 lane highway and interstate. The '12 cruzes got a 2mpg rating bump in highway so I am not sure if they do better or not.
Just keep in mind that you have to drive a ton to make the gas difference pay for the cost of the new car. |

I had a few months in a 1.4T manual but not in an LTZ. It is really a solid car, rides nice and it's reasonably quiet. The motorcycle inspired speed and tach may be off putting to some, but you get used to it.
They just released the new automatic trans with the Turbo so if you are thinking automatic trans those are just coming out now. Overall a reasonably roomy (for the size) comfortable car. But absolutely get the turbo. I also spent some time in the base engine car with a manual trans and it is much less entertaining. I could get 40 if you were on the highway, but not around town.

I compared the Sonic to the Honda Fit, Mazda 2, and the Veloster. I ended up buying the Veloster because it had a nicer interior and its rated at 40 mpg hwy as the Sonic is. I've had the car about a month and absolutley love it...it looks more agressive then the other cars in it's segment too. Just go drive and compare yourself...There all good little cars.

Hey Scott thanks. I've driven a veloster and really like it. I really hadn't planned on spending more than 18-19 so for me the options you get with sonic vs the V are kinda moot to me. I'd be looking at a base V when I can get a loaded sonic. I dont need gps, my wife's flex as all the bells for that. I may still consider it b/c I really liked it when I drove it. I've had a Hyundai in the past as was not impressed. I know then Hyundai today is nit the Hyundai of a few years ago
