If they can make the V6 as powerful as a V8, then why not?

as long as the horsepower is there who cares where it comes from? if it gets the government off GM's nuts about fuel efficiency in at least one model of the Vette and makes it where GM can still produce monster V8 corvettes, why not?

MotorTrend is full of it.
But a 2.0T Camaro? Pretty much set in stone.

I have to agree with this guy. If I want an American sportscar, I want a big engine V8(minimum) with that feel and growl that you will not find in a 4 or a 6. It's essentially the essence of a muscle car...and when you take out that muscle...all you have left is a car. |

Because it would be heavier, no more efficient, more expensive to build, complicates the design & engineering of the engine bay, no V8 sound, and it would be more prone to failure.
Other than that, I can't really think of why it wouldn't be a great idea. Although considering that, I'm not really sure whats left to make it a good idea A turbo6 only makes sense to me when it would replace V8s entirely in the car. If you're going to have a V8 for higher performance models, you may as well stick with an all V8 design.

The statement about what does it matter if HP is there. I can agree with that mostly...there should be minimum HP/TQ standards. There is also a certain amount of tradition with engine size, and I think that's what makes a lot of people not like hearing about these changing engine sizes. V6 and V8 have been the engine choices for Camaro since I can remember. V8 has been in Corvette for a very long time now. I have to admit that a turbo 4 in a Camaro makes me cringe a little.
I have a V6 Camaro...I love it...have no regrets buying it...love the HP it has. I have my reasons for going with a V6 over SS. The only thing I would like in my Camaro is that sound a V8 makes. I put a CAT Back on my V6 and it really helped the sound and it did make me very happy. The sound of a V8 didn't out-weigh my other needs. I'm sure if we see a V6 in a Corvette or a turbo 4 in Camaro...there will be those people that say the same. .

Yes, I'm afraid it's a bad idea.
What are they gonna do, put big speakers on the back of it to broadcast computer generated V8 sound? Quote:
