Newb from Seattle

Hey everyone I dont own a Camaro yet, but I hope to soon!
I don't know alot about the Camaro, let alone American cars. Yes I know I'm jumping into the Lions den here... I'm a Big Honda enthusiast. Over the years I've owned many of them. I currently have 3 of them. 03 Si(daily driver), 05 S2000(gf daily driver) and 08 S2000 Club Racer(our toy/track car). I'm not looking to abandon my roots, just looking to broaden my horizens.
Since the concept came out years ago and of course Mr Bumble Bee from transformers, I've been drawn to the Camaro. So now the time has come in my life to pursue this Beast. From what little reading I have done so far in these forums(started last night), I see that the 2013 1LE looks to be right up my alley being more track oriented out of the box.
I still have a bunch of reading to do and of course I really need to get down to a dealer and actually drive one. I will probably have to park a block away with my Si and walk there so they will actually help me haha.

Any advice for a "ricer" looking to come to the dark side?

Thanks in advance everyone,
John

Hey John, welcome to the Camaro side!
I am a recent convert from the European side.
Recent rides of mine include a 2005 Porsche Boxter, 2006 Porsche Carrera, and BMW X5 4.4.
I took delivery of my 1SS RS LS3 about a month ago.
Your S2000 is all about high RPM power. My Porsche's had great torque but nothing like my SS!
Impressions from my first test drive were:
1) this car feels very solid and well put together.
2) this car feels very heavy
3) cornering is surprisingly flat with FE4 suspension
4) this thing stops much better than I expected
5) great engine power everywhere, pulls even harder from 4,000 to redline.

So I bought my Camaro and still was hesitant to really push it through turns cause it felt so heavy, my Porsche's felt like an extension of me. But remember, I was used to driving them on road and on track. The Camaro felt so different!

Two weeks ago I took the Camaro up to the north Georgia mountain roads and discovered the more I hustled it along the "lighter" (more responsive) it felt. I just left it in 3rd gear and ran along from about 2,500 - 4,000 RPM. If I was driving either Porsche I'd be using 2nd and 3rd gear and running the engine between 3,000 to 6,000 RPM. Your S2000 would be running at higher RPM's than my Porsche's, right?

So keeping the tire friction circle in mind and staying tuned in to "the string" connected between the bottom of steering wheel and the gas/brake pedals, I'm very happy with my 2012 SS. I bonded with the car that day.

On my way home from the mountain road trip I came up on a beautiful Ferrari 430, it was spotless and sounded great, too. As I passed it only one thing came to my mind - I'm really glad I got this Camaro, can't think of another car I'd prefer.

John, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

@ sloSS, Definately the weight issue I would have to get used to. Over 1000lbs heavier than my CR. The power is mostly after 6k all the way up to 8k(not tuned at the moment). Primarily this car is a BEAST in the corners, so alot of 2nd, 3rd to keep the RPMS up.

If its not raining(HAHAHAHA) I might be able to make it out with the CR to Dicks. Dont laugh at my wing when I get there
