So are you posting to talk firearms or are you debating the legitimacy of members' right to carry?

It's a firearms thread so posting regarding firearms and use of them. I am not a legislator so to speak about legitimacy of Americans right to bare arms is way outside of my scope of knowledge. We have the right to own firearms too for lawful purposes as long as you do the training and apply for the permit, however, there is no such thing as a carry conceal permit for everyday citizens to stuff in their sock or keep in their Camaro's, unless your career requires you to carry guns. ie - Police, special forces, security, brinks, detective, et al. Even the police cannot own "personal" firearms without a PAL, nor can they carry firearms when off duty unless of course under special privileges (under cover for example). Really, curious as to "why" it's necessary for every day citizens to carry firearms. It actually amazes me that it's necessary there in the US, and so many people don't feel safe without carrying heat. So, just a question. I'm thinking if someone pulled gun on me "multiple" times in my neighborhood or across town while sitting in my ride or taking a walk, and the police are too scared to enforce the law I'd probably want to carry a .45 too, to be honest I'd want to carry two .45, and maybe even a shotgun. ![]() However, just seems to me something has gone very wrong for a 21st. century modern day society in North America when it's citizens need to carry any type of concealed weapon. We can't even carry a knife here, it's illegal.

It's our right and some CHOOSE to do and some don't. I have carried a piece legally since I was 21. I carry everywhere where legal all the time. You could not tell I am carrying a handgun and would have no clue. But in the instance a robber decided to take a group of folks to the vault or harm another party including myself I will do whatever needed to protect them and myself. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. I would be very uncomfortable living as you do. Crooks have no rules. The Police cannot help you 24/7 and you are at the bad guys mercy. I can't imagine that. |

I carry because COPS are slow and to heavy. I'm a firearms dealer, so its a no brainer. ALL politics aside criminals don't care about "laws", i'm sure you have robberies and murders in good ole Canada too. I would rather be able to protect myself in the event of someone going off the deep end in a restaurant or store. Crimes not all that bad in the U.S. compared to the world, but its also because we have laws that allow us to protect ourselves

Do people think we are all crazy for driving a car that can do 160mph when the speed limit is only 65? Everyone perceives things in a different manner. I know my comfort/ safety comes from 2 things, carrying a gun and wearing a seatbelt.

The key here is we have no purpose to carry guns here in Canada. So, nothing to be uncomfortable about. That's my overall point. I've been to almost all the worst parts of town in every major city in Canada, the worst thing that happens is someone asks you for a dollar. ![]() We had a bank robber here for about 1yr. going to banks with a note in hand walking away with a few dollars each time. It's actually pretty funny. And, shootings (involving innocent people) is very rare, the last one was a TTC (subway) attendant. That guy will be hunted down like a dog, and won't see the light of day for several years when they get him. And, believe me they'll chase him to the ends-of the earth until they get him. That's why we don't have much crime here. You will not get away with it, and they'll eventually catch you even if they have to leave the country to snatch your a**, especially when violence is involved. I would argue law enforcement should be adequate to keep crimes at bay so people can feel safe walking the streets without a piece stuffed in their shorts, otherwise what's the point of having a police force, why not have a vigilante system of justice? ![]() So after reading the responses, I'm not debating whether or not you should carry a gun, it seems to me it's quite obvious you have to, but it also appears there is something majorly wrong with law enforcement and the justice system over there, it could be financing, I don't know but it's very apparent there is something not quite right. Outside looking in anyway. Logically, if I had to carry a gun that would say to me that my whole family needs to carry guns too. Does that sound normal? Seems kind of 3rd. world-ish. |

I carry a gun because I was never assigned a personal cop or bodyguard. When I am, I'll gladly leave my guns at home

Well you Canadians have gun laws the USA will not tolerate. England is another place.. just look at the crime there. No place is without crime. So, it is OK for you to feel you cannot protect yourself when a rapist comes in the house. Can't even have a knife to defend them doing the wife in front of you eh? That would be in my eyes a hell hole to live in FEAR because the criminal has no mindset. Well the good ol' USA has basically NO gun laws for the law abiding. You are law abiding and CANNOT defend yourself. So, don't bash the USA because we can defend ourselves with our firearms. |

I don't carry because I'm scared. I carry because I will not be put in a situation that renders me helpless to defend myself. After serving in the Marine Corps in Iraq I am more than qualified to safely carry a firearm. If something were to happen I'm prepared hopefully that never happens.

If some dumb ass climbs in my window in an attempt to rob me or rape my family and I pop off in his a** that's one thing. But, in public there is very little to fear, and less to fear in your home. And, my questions aren't to demean anyone or any country, I'm just asking a question our of curiosity. The question has been answered a few times. So, I'm good. But, if I needed to carry a piece in my Camaro, I'd want it quickly accessible. I'd have a special housing made under the driver seat where I could easily reach under and grab that bad boy quick.
