Chat Bar?

I have seen many sites with a live-feed chat bar that runs if you select the proper settings. I didn't know if this had been discussed, but many times on here (and I've only been on for about 2 weeks) I've found myself PM'ing back and forth.

Maybe there's a way to start a chat bar feed to allow real-time chatting between members. This would be especially helpful for sales and technical information on parts and such. As I said before, I haven't really dug in to finding it on the site yet, but thought I'd throw it out there.

A chat bar would kinda defeat the purpose of a forum. If there was a chat bar with 50,000+ people talking back and forth, it would just be a plain mess.

Let's say you have a question about your fuse box. You type in your question in the chat bar, and suddenly 10 other people type in something in the chat bar, suddenly, your question is no where to be found. Now not only is your question gone, but you never got a single answer to it.

That's the good thing about threads. You get tons of answers to your question.

Pretty much.

As Tran explained a while ago:

Good points. I was thinking of something on a small scale though. Such as an option to direct chat with someone when you are buying/selling. Not a massive site-wide chat box, just an option to use it when needed. I certainly see the reason it hasn't been created yet, as this is a forum. I guess we all have cell-phones too though lol

Don't forget that PM's back and forth can also be saved. Sure, you can screen shot a chat. But, I've got PM's saved from a couple years ago that I know I'll need later on (business stuff).

I know what you mean with the chat deal. But, I also see how it could defeat the purpose of a forum.

Yeah, I guess it's a deal where the pros don't quite catch the cons.

Chat rooms/bars can prove disastrous. I'm a mod on another forum and our chat was up and down. I think the off-topic forum pretty much encapsulates the purpose a chat room would.

Its a cool idea but when you get down to it, it's really not necessary and is prone to trouble.

the PWA lounge is pretty much a chat room in and of itself with the speed in which it moves.
