Hilariously enough, the upcoming Cruze Diesel might be a decent performer...

Cobalt was beyond any form of salvage. It took a new platform for GM to get their ducks in a row for their compacts.

Who cares? Performance isn't everything, especially in the compact segment where the vast majority of buyers are looking for fuel efficiency in a well-appointed, no-compromises package, not performance. The Cobalt was only slightly better than the Corolla in terms of interior quality/materials, and the exterior was insanely dated. By the time Cruze launched, Cobalt had become a horribly uncompetitive car.

Kids these days grew up with their parents' Toyotas and Hondas were raised to believe that cars are simply appliances to get from point A to point B. It's hilarious to watch them sit in a new GM or Ford product for the first time as they realize that they've been settling for absolute garbage their entire lives.
