Pontiac would still be around if GM hadn't made the Single Digit IQ decision of the last 50 years by trying to market some POS car from austrialia as a GTO to counter the reborn Ford Mustang. Would of easily outsold the camaro 5 had it been created like the 65 -67 GTO. Isnt that right Fbobfather or whatever you go by

The only Pontiac I ever liked was the Firebird Trans Am. My husband is a huge TA guy and he would love nothing more than to see the TA comeback but he absolutely hates the TA conversion kits on the camaro. He thinks they are ugly and I have to agree. I'd love to see the Trans Am comeback someday as its own original car not a Camaro with different body panels.

4th gen Firebirds/Trans Ams and Camaros were nothing more than the same car with different body panels and interior panels, in all fairness. The only difference with Lingenfelter making a Trans Am conversion off the Camaro is that it's not General Motors doing it.

I owned a '99 Grand Prix for 10 yrs so I do miss it Pontiac in general. Considered a G8 V8 and a GTO greatly before the CamaroV6.

Bob Lutz was on Autoline Detroit saying Pontiac was x'ed not for sales as it sold more than Buick. Profits from it were low. While I do miss pontiac, I can understand why it was axed. Too bad they couldn't make it a performance brand but it could return.

Its 1:15 hours long but @18:30 is where they talk design and @47:45 is where they talk on Pontiac and GMC being axed.

Slightly off topic, this is what Bob said happened when he looked at the upcoming +04 Grand Prix design.
Wayne was the VP of design at GM.

Quote:
Bob: “Wayne, these designs are terrible.”

Wayne: "I know"

Bob: “This thing is coming out and the VP of design says ‘these are terrible’?”

Wayne: "Yea"

Bob: "How does this happen"

Wayne: “I have no authority over it. The vehicle line executives said its ok. We had to hit the cutoff day.”
Kinda sad. Glad GM has changed.

Don't forget the Solstice. A second gen Solstice GXP probably would have been killer.

I really wish this was June/08, and I could get ALL my money out o' the Market...and then I wish it was March/09, so I could put it all back in at the bottom...and then I could afford to buy every Pontiac I ever wished for...

I liked a number of Pontiacs...Firebirds/Trans Ams, Grand Prix, Solstice, G8. Love the 2000-2005 Bonneville...would definitely own one.

Pontiac had some great cars over the years, but now that they're gone i really am not missing them . It's made GM stronger, with just 3 brands to concentrate on. Those brands are all really distinct now too. Pontiac and Chevrolet were so close in price that they really just competed with each other, and the extra cost of tooling up for a 4th brand really didn't pay off.
It's too bad there won't be another Firebird, but if there was it would just take Camaro sale's and the mustang would hold the number 1 sales spot.
