I love Tennesseans!

Today I was reminded why Tennessee is so great and why I live in such a wonderful state.

On the way home today, there was a funeral procession coming along the highway. As is custom, all drivers pulled over to the shoulder of the road and waited to the line passed. We do this as a sign of respect to the deceased and his or her family. Men take their hats off. It is such a wonderful show of respect. It's such a sentimental act of kindness in a world of chips on everyone's shoulders and "what do I get out of it" society.

I wonder if this is a tradition in our area or do other states do this as well?

I've done this many times. They even shut down 95 (main highway) for a funeral processions.

Arkansas too, except there's usually a knucklehead that uses the opportunity to pass everyone on the shoulder to get where he is going faster.

That's awesome. I'm in Northern VA / D.C. most of the time and that never happens. Outside of Jersey, we've got some of the worst driver's on the road

Yes, it happens in Texas. ... but only outside of cities. Once you pass the city limit signs the human to d-bag ratio skews radically.

I even know a guy who turns off the radio when he drives by a cemetery as a show of respect. He also doesn't talk, doesn't speed... seriously respectful fellow.
Maybe a bit much for most folks but I think we need more like him.

We were on a camaro cruise with about 50 in northern Florida and people kept thinking we might be a funeral so they were pulling over left and right.
