Now if we are strictly talking base 5.0L's in Mustangs and not the e85 capable 5.0L in the f-150 pick ups it comes down to a lot more then just more then weight.

The main reason I think its quicker is because of the 5.0L ability to rev higher and be in its power band longer all the way to its redline vs the LS engine that has a shorter power window and fall off the closer you get to redline. The next reason would be its shorter gearing in the transmission, not in the rear end because the quickest mustangs run the tallest gears like 3.15's and 3.31's.

Low end LS grunt doesn't really pay off at the track because its only in the low revs for less then half a second through out the whole run vs these 5.0L are that are launching at 6,000rpm and never see anything less then 5,000rpm down the strip.

I say these things somewhat based off of what I see once equal mods are added to each car but it still hold true for stock vs stock.
i think another reason the lower geared mustangs are so fast in the quarter is because of too much shifting. The higher geared cars have an extra shift at the end of the quarter and shifting = time lost. But youre right about the advantages of RPM's though. But just looking at the dyno sheets themselves show the 5.0 doesnt just have a weight advantage.

hmmm... on stock tires? sounds you haven't even been down a track...
I cant even " just press the pedal and go " in my heavy lowly 6.1 and not roast em.... so either you have no track experience or your 5.0 is a lemon and has no tq....

Hasn't it been proven that 4th and 5th gen Camaro's don't always see improvements when gearing down to 3.73's or 4.10's, especially when not going from a dig?

My lemon runs a 12.7 with the traction control on.

2013 GT is rated at 420hp SAE. which means the actual test was 425hp. ford rates them at the low end of the 1 percent rule. so the 5.0 makes the same power now.
