Oshawa's other home run!

I drove a 2012 Buick GS yesterday and was really impressed, the window sticker said it was built at the Buick facility in Oshawa Canada, the engine and trans in Germany,,, 270 hp out of 122 cubes! I think it would give many performance cars a run for thier money it had every option including a sunroof and gps and the optional 20"wheels with 255 40 P zeros
Stikered at a pinch above 38 K owners manual recommends premium fuel.
I am trading my 01 Yukon but on a Regal turbo not the GS pick it up tonight
200.00 a month gas bill on the Yukon will cover about two thirds of the lease payment. I was surprised that 6 manual was available on any turbo models besides the GS although I am getting the auto with the select shift .

I sat in one a couple of weeks ago, I agree this is an amazing car! I would of liked to have seen it as an AWD, but I will have to drive the Fwd model first to judge? How did it handle, alot of torque steer?? Now if they would make a Cruze SS with this drivetrain

The GS has virtually no torque steer with the new HiPer Strut front suspension.

If I didn't need the space that my Traverse provides (darn kids and dog), my DD would be a Regal GS...

I think that is the same engine Pontiac had in the Solstice starting in '08. Should have the kinks worked out by now.

Good choice, I have a 2012 Regal Turbo too. it is parked next to my 2010 Camaro. I call them the Oshawa twins. The Regal is awesome. You will like it.

The Regal is an awesome vehicle. It was actually supposed to be the 2nd Gen. Saturn Aura but most of us know how that turned out. IMHO, the Regal is a home run for Buick.

I always give the new Regals respect when I see them just because they are siblings to the Camaro's. Too bad my wife doesn't want a car when she trades up soon.

How many different vehicles are produced at the Oshawa plant?? Do they run the lines simultaneously or do they switch off?? Do they run in batches, like all ZL1 production together, SS models together, etc. Just curious...

Looking at the plant on Google Earth it looks huge!!

The Flex line or ( Plant # 1 ) builds the Camaro coupe , Convertible , ZL1 , Buick Regal & Cadillac XTS . We are also slated for the all new Chevy Impala in early 2013 . It runs on a 2 shift operation , 5 days a week. We run all models on the same line based on the build scheduling . So you get coupes followed by convertibles followed by ZL1's with Regals and Caddys mixed in .

We can build whatever is asked of us !

Plant # 2 next door , builds the current model Impala and the Chevy Equinox . It runs on a 3 shift operation 6 days a week.

We also have a Stamping Plant next door that does most of the inner and outer panel's for these vehicles . Hope this anwers your questions.

Thanks for supporting GM and Team Camaro.

Currently they build Camaro's,Regal's and Caddy's new XTS on one line, and Impala's and Equinox's on another line (IE-two separate assembly lines)

Mike can confirm if something has changed, but when we toured the plant last June they were building a "mixed variety".....you would see an SS coupe, then an LT 'vert, then a Regal, then an SS vert, etc, etc.

And yes,The Oshawa assembly plant is HUGE!

**EDIT-Mike,You beat me to posting!!**

Got the base model Regal as my DD car, and I've been so impressed. Obviously I thought about waiting for the GS to come out, but wanted the gas mileage. For the price to lease it, I'm so impressed with the car overall. The base 4 does ok, with the only issue being the "lag" when reaccelerating after coasting through a turn.

And the interior is just awesome from a fit, finish, style standpoint. Is it a Lexus or Audi or BMW? No. But i honestly like the interior more than some of those much more expensive sedans.

And it's allowing me the $$$ to go buy the midlife crisis car. Now if only the vert issues didn't have me completely confused on what to get.

Wow!! Thanks Mike. Sounds like you've got some "job security" going on up there!! That's great!! The logistics of having all the correct parts lined up for assembly must be amazing!!

Unfortunately, we lost the GM plant here in OKC (I was hoping for the Camaro to built here back when it was closing in 2006, but...). Fortunately, since it's right next to Tinker AFB (a large depot maintenance facility), the former GM plant is now a maintenance facility for the US Air Force and is actually part of the base now!!! So all was not lost in the jobs area.

Thanks again for the info.
