w... o... freaking w!!!!!
like everybody else says - pictures are great, but it ain't nothin like seeing it in person! the first one was a bit of a disappointment because... ok, let me back up... so i call the parts counter with a question about my truck, blah, blah, blah... & before i hang up, i just throw in there, "so the camaro ain't in yet, is it?" and he said, "yeah!! just came in on the truck this morning." with that, i literally ran outside, jumped in the truck, & hauled you-know-what down there! i get there right as they pulled it into the showroom, and my salesman finds me as i'm running in the door. there it is - a victory red 1LT/RS! as the detail guys are waxing it, i get to look it over in shock & awe at how much better it really does look in real life!! i got to look under, over, & all around it! ![]() then comes the question... "so can you unlock it?" and do you know what i get? "sorry, man, but we just sold it an hour ago!" i'm like WHAT?! apparently, there was a last-minute decision to make it available for sale & somebody saw it coming off the truck, went in, & wrote a check! now being a sold customer vehicle, nobody was allowed to open it or get in, etc (with good understandable reason). what a bummer!! :( you wait so long to finally get to see one for the first time, and you just have to stand behind the now-erected chain barrier & look at it like the pre-production models at shows. still high on happiness at being able to see the camaro in half its awesomeness, i went home with a sense of tingly-ness at how great it really does look! (even though it seemed a bit bigger than it really is because it was sitting right beside a z06) a little while later, i decided to call another dealer i've been talking to & sure enough, they were just unloading theirs off the truck as i called! i really didn't want to drive 45 minutes down there today when i'd be driving right by there on my way to work tomorrow, but they're doing some custom work to it & were taking it to the shop this evening, so it was either go now or wait til next week... i'll give you one guess as to which option i picked! so i get there & they've got it hidden in a back corner of the shop under a cover, but the salesman dug around & found the keys for me! it's a silver ice 2LT/RS with black leather, freshly detailed and awaiting its debut on saturday. after looking around it again (looking a bit smaller now by itself), i got to open the doors & have a look around! man, are those seats comfortable!! very supportive and yet cushiony, too. the gauges are awesome & very natural-looking. i will say the cup holders are in kind of an awkward spot because i keep my arm right over them when i drive, but oh well. aside from my head hitting the roof a little, the back seats were actually quite comfortable - much better than the 3rd & 4th gens. the pass-side c-pillar makes for a great visual impairment, but what else would you expect from a camaro? the ABL looks so freaking sweet! it's very subtle & not distracting, but still noticeable. after playing with the radio control on the steering wheel, i'm positive i can do without them. they just felt awkward, especially with my big hands & when the radio is just a few inches away, i see no use for them in my car. the HIDs are phenomenal & so crisp. i love how dark the RS tail lights are when unlit. they seem stealthier or something. when i was done playing around, i happened to notice that i was all alone... holding the key to this beautiful machine... ![]() then i remembered OnStar... :( ![]() that's right about the time Albert came back to take the car off to get the stuff done to it & he gave me a ride back around to the front of the lot. it's surprisingly quiet and smooth, even over speed bumps. that gives me hope for tolerable smoothness in the SS. that was it for my first & second real-life camaro experiences overall (after playing with a challenger r/t, 2010 mustang gt, & driving a genesis coupe), i'd give the camaro 2 thumbs up along with a hip-hip-hooray & a huge sly grin! |
