Montoya apparently thought he was racing against the jet dryers under caution. He passed the first one easily, but that second guy outdrove him and montoya lost it.

Literally that should cost the dude his ability to race in another Nascar series race.

There were visible sparks under the car before he lost control, and they were working on his car just minutes before, trying to find a vibration in the car, under any gear. likely something in the rear or trans let go.

Honestly I don't think something broke. I think he locked the brakes up and lost it.
