That's not really normal. That's pretty high. I would check your coolant levels.

My car hits 220 regularly in the summer when I'm idling in traffic for some time. I hear the cooling fans kick on about this temperature too. Once they start, the temperature goes down to 195-200. On the highway and moving around town, the car consistently stays at 190.
I don't see anything wrong with your car hitting 220...as long as it doesn't go up much higher. I'm interested in seeing other responses to this. Stieger's response makes me wonder...

OK let me clarify. Your car shouldn't be getting up to 220 in the middle of February.

If you live in a warm area and u might able to run a 160 thermostat to let the engine run cooler if u live in a cooler area it just takes I'll longer to get inside of the car warm. Cooler the engine the better they run from my experiences unless they are diesels haha.

Yeap, of course I do live in FL. but, it can be 40 in the morning on the way to work and if I sit at the light it will raise. and the other day it hit 221 and then starting going down. so, I called another place this morning and he told me it's normal. but, I'm going to keep a eye on it because it's different then it was before. before my fans ran all the time and super loud. now there quit and come on at the temp. at 221. I just don't want to hurt my car.

Fan calibration from the factory is set to turn on around 217*.....for emission purposes.
Not unusual to see a spike to 220* or 221P before is comes back down,Normal. Get a tune and they will come on sooner....mine around 194*and never gets above 200* 160* stats are not good and won't make any difference when idling in traffic.....they just fully open sooner and aluminum engines like to run hotter.

Thank you all for your help. I feel alot better about it now and have been keeping my eye on it today with the A/C on and it wasn't going over 207 without cooling back down.
