Agreed. You'll notice, and realize though -- that the rolling start the ZL1 had was from about 65-70 mph as it entered a braking zone...so we're only taking a couple of seconds difference, if it had started from a stand-still.

Nevertheless...any car that can run the ring in a time in the deep sevens is worthy of the "supercar" lapel pin IMHO.

I want to lap the North Loop...just once...before I die. What a thrill that would be.

EDIT: I can't find anything clearly explaining what the difference was with the original Z06 time other than it was a standing start, and it included the entire pit lane back. This difference allegedly would have cut about 6-8 seconds from the original time. I just think it bears pointing out the difference in standards, even if I can't quantify what those differences mean in overall lap time. The ZL1 and a base Z06 could be in the same ball park as far as I'm concerned.

I also can't wait to go there this year, but I'm a little worried about the other crazy tourist drivers on the ring ha ha.

That is very true. Times under 8min sound so "easy" nowadays with all thes enew supercars but regardless it is freakishly fast. I have been fortunate to have driven and raced there many many times and I know it is not easy in any car to go under the 8min mark. After about 400 laps I managed to get a sub 8-min time in my Z06 but after that run my heart was beating a million times per min and the adrenaline was rushing like crazy. There is zero margin for error at that track and it WILL bite back. We have all been there!

But it is a pure awesome adrenaline rush to run this track in any car, I have driven everything from a VW Tuareg TDI, Renault Clio to full Z06 race car and even though some are faster, I cannot say it wasn't just as fun in the Clio as the Vette!

LOL yeah I wouldn't even begin to pretend that I could pilot myself to a sub 8 min lap there even with an empty track. I might put myself into a guardrail if I tried.

And at €400 per section or Armco rail that could be quite expensive...

A friend of mine ended up with a €4000 bill for armco, fluid clean up and towing from the Ring! I have been close when I was pushing it, I killed the front splitter on my rented Lotus Exige Cup Car but only grazed the armco without actually damaging it... I almost crapped my pants that time

GT500 in the ring, finally! Well, maybe

got this from the "other" site. I hope Ford is indeed tying to get a lap time for the GT500.

The other interesting thing is, they don't think it will be much faster in the Quarter mile on stock tires due to size, and balance of the car. Very interesting.
Looks like your source was dead on.

I wonder what it will run, Ford says it's faster than the GT around a track and from what I understand the GT was tested from a stop and in traffic by a magazine when it pulled that 7:40.6.....

Oh well we will wait and see.....

All Hameedi said was that the 2013 GT500 was faster on a road course. That could simply mean one particular road course, not all road courses. Time will tell. Maybe.

Ford's goal is to beat the ZL1's 7:41 lap. They might claim "testing" but Ford already did extensive testing last summer/fall on the '13 GT500 drivetrain and chassis.
