The other interesting thing is, they don't think it will be much faster in the Quarter mile on stock tires due to size, and balance of the car. Very interesting.

Isn't it obvious from most of our Mustang "friends" that until the 2013 GT500 posts a faster lap time at the Nurburgring than the ZL1 did, that Nurburgring lap times don't mean anything. Then, if the 2013 GT500 posts a faster time, a Nurburgring lap time will be the most important benchmark by which any car can possibly be measured.
Truer words have never been written!

Yes, I've been fully aware of GM's claims of 12 for the auto and 12.1 for the manual well before the brochure was released! That IS NOT what my "Really? " was referring to. My comment was directed at your claim that " The ZL1 is already at 12.0 1/4th on stock tires in less than desirable weather....".

Thanks 69NMYSS.......I look forward to watching that when I get home today. Because honestly, the ZL1 has left me a bit flat as far as the 1/4 mile goes.....maybe that vid is what I need to see.

Doesn't it say adjusted time under 12? Also they give no time?! So motor trend is still the best at 12.1, automobile the worst at 12.9

It's one of the most challenging race courses in the world. If a car does well there, it will perform anywhere. And it's the world standard to compare the best cars. Are there any other tracks that draw all the best performance cars from around the world?

Does anyone know the rules for production cars to run and claim an "official" lap time there? Is there a third party involved to inspect the car's production guise and validate a car's lap time? I remember reading somewhere or watched a show awhile back about car manufacturers have been known to run "test mules" or "ringers" there that were not quite the "production" version of their cars.

There are no rules for Nuerburg Ring times... Becuase of that was that big discussion about GTR times and that they used sticky tires, different tune, and what not... no-one can prove/validate it.

I think the tests done by the Auto Bild (the german magazine) are less biased as they test several cars at the same time and there are no manufacturers involved.

Well then...if Ford indeed runs the new GT500 there, who can stop them from claiming a better time vs. the ZL1? It's nice to read about cars running, testing, and "perfecting" their cars there, the ring "times" are useless and hold no validity IMO. I will stick to our well-known magazines to bring these cars head to head and posting times and giving us their "opinion".

Agree. The best we can hope for is that both manufacturers are honest. Usually there are a lot whistle-blowers on location....if there was reason to suspect, a company may be called out. Much like Nissan was with the gtr. If I remember right, that was also one of the only times one manufacturer took aim at another verbally over a 'Ring time.

Porche put their best driver in a gtr and claimed they couldn't replicate a time even remotely close to what Nissan published. "Unless the car was on slick tires" they said, I think...

Regardless - I think you're right. There's too big a margin to say one car is faster than another by mere seconds...but I DO think you can compare times to see what company a car is in.

But the bigger measure, IMO, is how the car feels going around the track. We always hear about "drivers cars"...

As soon as a roll cage goes in a car you can pretty much cross out track times for "production" cars to begin with.

How about we quit talking smack, and just shut up and wait till the #'s come out. Do you know how stupid some of you are going to look if the GT500 out performs it by a mile? Just shut up already and let's wait patiently.

Did somebody pee in your cheerios this morning?

We'll only look stupid if you're right. And others may look stupid for other reasons. It's part of the thrill of speculation!!!

My dad can beat up your dad....

Let me know when either the GT500 or the ZL1 touch this "weak" N/A 505 HP monster around the ring. 7:22.68
