They're just out of their element. Slightly different cultures...I doubt it has anything to do with the education system.

If you haven't seen the UK episode when they go to South America you're missing a laugh fest!

I like the US version. It's hard to make a show called Top Gear USA and it not follow a similar format of the original. I'd like to see The americans take on the brits like the VS shows that have been done in the UK version. And yes, there's only one Jeremy Clarkson.

I wondered about this - why are Americans in general very "stupid" when it comes to interviews? Don't believe me - just check youtube for the huge difference. I have yet to see a British guest on Top Gear that wasn't witty, and I think only Jay Leno was the only American I've seen that could match Clarkson.

It's obviously got something to do with the education system. The Brits are learning something that Americans aren't. Heck that's why Americans routinely can't tell the difference between:

Their vs There vs They're
Irregardless vs Regardless ("irregardless" is not a word you twat!)
Oriented vs Orientated
Loser vs Looser

Drives me crazy.
its not about being american or britsh its just the confidence and swagger what counts.

I've seen plenty of Brits appear a bit 'daft' when appearing as a guest on a US based talk show. It goes both ways

The "original" has been around awhile...has its "legs", and its own now-established "culture". Irreverent, cheeky....kinda like Car and Driver was, in the days of David E. Davis and the "Assassin" Brock Yates. Which isn't the way it is now, sadly.

The "new" US version is simply "finding its way". Maybe an infusion of Adam Carolla? Someone not "corporate" but knowledgeable about cars, driving, and "fun"...

Or maybe it just needs a lil more "spicy broth" added to the recipe.

Sometimes "safe"...isn't...

That's really interesting!! I'm going to have to research this. Are there any examples you can think of, at the top of your head?

I like the us version of top gear they arent trying to copy everything Uk top gear has done but u have to remember Uk top gear has been around for what 14 to 15 series as they say. This is season 2 the last epidsode was quite hilarious with the big rigs it almost is getting funnier with each epidsode. For everyone who exspect top gear us to be top gear uk is always gonna be dissappointed Its a totally different show imo.

Wow! I was totally thinking adam carolla.......they need a better cast for sure. But really they just needed to give America some credit and not just pick three white guys. I feel like the British guys are really good examples of what different Brits are like. Clarkson is funny and obnoxious, James May is way to intellectual but stops short of being a know it all. Hammond is just a goofball, but not a dumbass. They are extreme caricatures of British personalities. The Americans they picked have absolutely no personality in comparison. It's as if they were afraid of getting any strong personalities for the us version, making it more toned down. Part of the beauty of the uk version is seeing them not taking any of it seriously. my favorite uk moments.....

Dang. They went with an L99. They also called it a 2012 when it's obviously a 2011.

darn i missed the first half, then i see they had WHITE Camaro!
end was so stupid with Tanner not testing top speed.
i can barely stand Rutledge, but the other guy is an idiot. Should put an automotive journalist in their to round it out.
the antics of the other two bashing Tanner are so 6thgrade, such as last week smashing his phone and telling him he backed over it.
