When I bought my MacBook pro they offered student discount. I think they offered law enforcement/ military discount but it isn't as much as the student discount.

I don't see anyone here posting that their Windows based machines (the back end of Windows hasn't been DOS based since Windows 3.1) are the most superior things on the planet.

I haven't had a BSOD in over 7 years (I can barely even remember the last time) and my last machine was Win XP based and my current one runs Win 7 64 bit. All my work computers in the last 10 years ran Windows 2000 or XP and never had a BSOD either.

Its not fanboy its fact. For less than 1/3rd of the price of a Mac Pro I have a computer that can eat it alive, thats fact as well.

Are Mac's great, easy to use and perform well? Absolutely, if someone enjoys the experience enough then they should go ahead and get a Mac. However just because they work well and are good, doesn't change the fact that they are overpriced in comparison to their Windows based counterparts, that work perfectly fine and do everything the Mac can do.

MacMall is really the best place to purchase a MBP. I like the 15" and purchase additional memory separately. You can't go wrong with a MAC.

Posted using a MBP.

Show me a Mac that can do ANY kind of gaming with the highest end graphics that a PC can. You can put some nice video cards into a Mac, but you can't do SLI. The graphics on my 2 year old PC for gaming are so much better than any Mac could ever do. In fact, this passes on to other types of programs that do 3D modeling and rendering.

Look, I'm not saying Macs are bad. Not at all, but both platforms have their strengths, and Macs are not best at everything. The hardware is consistent and solid, but the library of PC software is so much larger that having a Mac is kind of like existing in an Oasis in the desert. It's nice, but there ain't a lot of it there.

As far as virus'...I've had more virus' on Macs over the years than PC's. More recently, no...but Macs are not impervious to virus'. And, when I had my G5 tower, something hosed the OS, and I had to reinstall from scratch.

Chris - im a firm believer that there is a reason that the majority of graphic designers, and marketing firms are a Mac based shop. Even the Adobe based products were built for mac and then ported to Windows, so i believe the software itself is supposed to work much better. I used to be anti mac several years back. I decided to make the switch and i could never go back. It is pricey but the hardware is top notch and the software has far fewer issues than PCs. I used to be a helpdesk person and the amount of support hours for fixing pv issues versus mac are extreme. Well worth it in my opinion. It took me a couple weeks to get used to the new OS, but its super practical. And yes, the ability to easily sync phone and ipad. Pretty good. Just my 2 cents.

I think you'll still design like a rockstar either way.

Luke

I suppose I could do that right now for you. 2 years ago, when I got the Camaro, I also got my PC. It's still damn cool, and I run Windows 7 on it. Never have crashes, and have tons of stuff on it.

It's like buying a Camaro, and then modding it. You make it awesome. More risk, but more reward.

Here are the specs:
Silverstone Icon Aluminum Chassis painted Chevy Imperial Blue Metallic
Side Panel with LED Blue Lighting
EVGA X58 SLI Motherboard
Intel Core I7 975 Extreme 3.33 GHz
Asetek CPU Water Cooling
Enermax Magma 1200 Watt Power SUpply
12 GB RAM (6 2GB D3 PC3-1333MHz)
X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Sound Card
LG 8X Blue-Ray Disk Writer
Atech Flash Media Reader
2 EVGA Superclocked GeForce 295 1.8GB Video Cards in SLI (That's quad SLI)
Corsair 256GB Solid State Drive
Western Digital 2TB Hard Drive
LG W3000H-BN 30" 5MS LCD Display
Logitech G9 Mouse

Battlefield 3 is overrated. Heck, if I want to play a jet, I "play" a real jet...like this (in 2580x1600 with most of the options turned to high).

Great looking setup!

I'm a firm believer that the only arena that PC's trump macs on is in the gaming dept.

I'm only speaking for my own personal experience here, but every windows based PC (3 PC's vs 1 MacBook pro) I've owned have been absolute junk compared to the MacBook. Granted, I haven't used a machine with vista or windows 7 other than playing around on friends PC's. And honestly, the little playing around I've done, I'm not impressed compared to OSX.

Bottom line: both have their strengths and weaknesses. I don't play computer based games so the gaming argument doesn't apply to me. The only gaming I do is console games or on my iPhone/iPad2.

For everything else I do, the MacBook is just a superior product in form factor, fit and finish, and ease of use.

I dunno, perhaps windows machines have changed in the last three years and I'm just being stubborn?
