Chevy Volt

Has anyone seen these on the roads not owned by a government agency? I've seen 2 in my town, both being driven by typical government dolts. A buddy of mine lives in Austin and he's spotted them with city government tags on them.

It seems cities buying Volts was a precondition of receiving "stimulus" funds from the federal government. LOL!

I heard that too, batteries exploding or something

I'm just curious because the Volt was such a huge PR tool for the politicians when they bailed out GM. Seems like a disaster so far, like everything the government touches.

I've seen a couple around here in Tucson. Never saw the plates since all the Volt's I've seen were going the opposite direction.
The Chevy dealerships have plenty of them in the lot....more than I've seen in the past.

I see them all the time here in San Diego. Only once or twice as a gov vehicle. Hell I think I've seen more gov driven Prius' on the road than gov driven volts.

Several privately owned Volts here in Knoxville. Took one for a test ride on battery power, nice car. I know it's expensive and you can buy about 100K miles worth of gas for a Cruze for the price difference but that isn't what the Volt is all about. It's the 1st step towards the future. Believe me, electrons have the potential to offer far more performance than the IC engine ever will.

Yes, I've seen plenty.

I've never heard of local governments being required to buy Volts to get stimulus money. Not saying it didn't happen but it doesn't even make sense..................unless you believe in some conspiricy between the government and GM.

No, you are correct. They were recalled to add some reinforcements.

A Volt caught fire after sitting for 3 weeks after a goverment crash test. It didn't explode.

I worked around the Volt team in it's early phases. Not sure what you mean by the government touching it unless you mean the crash test. I know the government did look over the future portfolio from a financial standpoint and it's possible the Volt program was encouraged behind closed doors (we'll never know) but people were working on the Volt concept well before the bankruptcy in June of '09.

If you recall, GM showed the Volt Concept Car in January of 2007 at the Detroit Auto Show......................well before the bankruptcy and well before any government involvement in GM.

BTW, I do believe some of the CTF Volts were sold/leased to local governments as well as to utility companies. This was being done to get them more in tune with the Volt and electric propulsion and infrastructure needs. Seems like a good idea to me.............no?

The price difference is actually closer to 240,000 miles worth of gas for a Cruze. I've done the calculation.

Conspiracy between GM and the federal government? Of course not! The feds only owned 61% of the company. LOL!

Whats more is that 16% was given to the UAW, which is little more than a money laundering operation for one of our political parties.

Of course there's collusion between GM and the government. To believe otherwise is idiocy.

Electric cars will do nothing to reduce dependence on fossil fuels so long as we continue to deny construction of nuclear power plants. We're simply relocating the fossil fuel consumption.
