So the whole car was there already except the complete drivetrain.

shit I hope the car comes in a 25k I will buy one as well. I just don't see them coming in at that kind of price point. if it comes in at 53k I don't know how you could pay someone to take a boss 302 LS at that point. if perfromance and pricing don't line up you will have sales issue. IE see the deals you can get on 2012GT500's right now because of the 302LS and possible the ZL1 and newgt500 coming.
The 302 LS is an extremely limited car and is already priced almost identical to a 2012 gt500 so why would it be more of a problem if the gt500 were a few thousand more? 2012's are being discounted because everyone knows the 2013 is coming with way more to offer. Most people buying laguna secas don't buy them as daily drivers, whereas many gt500 buyers will.

I still don't understand how these two thought processes can coexist:

1. ZL1 was re-engineered front to back, packs better technology than gt500 while gt500 is just some new parts tacked on without nearly the R&D the zl1 had.

2. GT500 must cost Ford more than ZL1 costs GM.

You can't really make a logical argument for one that doesn't counter the other, but many are trying.

The base price will be comparable to the ZL1.

Funny how some just can't let the sleeping snake be. It is one bad a$$ car whether some will admit or not. Now some are trying to shoot it down on speculated price. Let's just stick to performance comparisons or is that over before the car is even out?

The view's will unfold like this.

1. If the Shelby comes in at, around, or under the ZL1, and dominates, The Z will be a total blunder. IMO... Most of that could be attributed to all the smack talking AL O did about how the ZL1 would still smoke the 13 Shelby. Their simulations even proved it...

2. If the Shelby comes in higher than the Z, and the Shelby dominates, it wont matter cause you cant compare the two because of the price difference. This is why everyone wants it to be higher...

3. If the Shelby dominates in all area's, all tracks, even price, as long as there are no ring times posted for the Shelby showing it beat 7:41, the ZL1 is still king.

4. If the ZL1 dominates at any track, it is king because straight line numbers dont mean anything anymore and even if you get smoked at the strip/highway/street,(where 99.9% of all these cars will meet) its all about how fast you can take the off ramp.

5. If the ZL1 gets dominated by the Shelby in all areas, it wont matter because a magazine editor will say the Z was more comfortable and thats all that matters when buying a 580-670hp car.
This thread was started to discuss what a reputable magazine estimates the BASE price will be on the '13 GT500 which is $59k. That's tough to swallow if you want one. This thread was not intended to get opinions on what board members think the price will be. I would be much more inclined to lean towards C&D as they know what they are talking about. Again, $59k BASE is some pretty coin. Add on performance package and track pack (oh yeah both those equivalent options are standard on ZL1) and other options and your at over $70k out the door. OUCH

59k would still be a hell of a deal for a 650hp 200+ mph car.

Base price won't be the high though.

Actually they offer a Track Package that comes with extra coolers on top of the PP.

Unless that has recently changed.

Then what's the difference? I haven't heard about them adding a track pack on top of the pp pack.

Available as part of the optional Performance Package, SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers are accessed on the dash with a simple push of a button. Normal mode gives customers a more comfortable ride over road irregularities. Sport mode is all about performance, delivering improved response time on the track and less body roll while cornering and pitch under braking. The Torsen limited-slip differential also comes with the Performance Package.

...

Enthusiasts can upgrade their Performance Package with an additional Track Package for all-out performance. The option comes with an external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler for further durability. The coolers play an essential role in preventing crucial components from overheating under high-speed conditions.
the track package is basically added coolers

Yep it might be to some. How much is the ZL1 out the door again? Gas guzzler tax and destination fee included. From what i've seen, it's about 60K.

Thats about the same isn't it???

You keep talking about PP packs this, and track packs that, but what makes you think the Shelby needs ANY of those to compete, or flat out smoke the ZL1?...

I think you keep forgetting that even if it was 59K base, YOUR GETTING A 650HP CAR! That in itself more than justifies the price if it was that, plus that is more than enough to take down any Z on the highway/street/or strip.

Would you agree?

One more thing. You keep talking about what the ZL1 comes with standard, but where is the 650hp? How about the HAND BUILT FORGED ENGINE? What about 200MPH capabilites? HID/LED headlights and tailights, carbon fiber one piece drive shaft, navigation, 300lbs less weight, how about the NO GAS GUZZLER TAX????

All this comes standard on the Shelby. So all this crap about MRC and Coolers (that you don't even need or will ever use unless your roadcourse you car) doesn't really sound so impressive does it?

we literally have as much information as Car and Driver.

They were 6k off the price of the ZL1 also, with all that inside knowledge.

Know a guy that ordered one. $58k is what he is paying.

He is also adamant the GT500 will cost 70k.

Depends on what Ford thinks is comparable. I'd bet Dodge think paying $45K for an SRT8 Challenger is comparable to paying $32K for an SS or a 5.0... Still, I'd wager Ford would rather take a loss on every GT500 it sells than price it above $60K...
