Spied: 2014 Cadillac CTS

2014 Cadillac CTS Spy Shots

Even through bankruptcy, bailouts, and a bad economy, the Cadillac CTS range has continued to buoy the brand's reputation and rank amongst luxury competitors. It's a very, very good car in many ways--so updating the car for 2014 is perhaps the most important thing Cadillac has on its table right now. These first spy shots of the 2014 CTS show initial progress.

So far, there's not much in the way of visible difference. Not that the differences aren't there--they're just cloaked under heavy sheets of camouflage. The placement of the camouflage itself tells us something about the 2014 CTS's updates, though.

The hood, front fascia, front fenders, and headlights will all be new for the 2014 model, likely sharing some family resemblance to the new 2013 ATS sedan, though also likely in a more dramatic, edgy way.

The rear will also be fully revised, judging by the covers. The tail lights look to feature LED lighting, while the head lights get small vertical LED daytime running lamps, too. Trapezoidal tailpipe outlets and an integrated rear diffuser appear to be part of the mix, blending the upward angle of the car's rearward underside into the bumper.

Changes are in place at the side of the car, too. In profile, the roof appears more rounded, particularly at the rear. The side mirrors are shorter and slimmer, with integrated turn signals. The shape of the rear side windows looks to be slightly different as well, with what may be slightly thinner C-pillars behind them.

So far, information on the mechanical underpinnings of the CTS are scarce. It's likely to be built on the same Alpha platform as the ATS, but beyond that, specifics like engines, transmissions, power, or gas mileage are in the dark. Even being based on the Alpha platform is a rather abstract concept these days, meaning little more than sharing some components on a potentially very different chassis. Coupe and Convertible versions of the 2014 CTS could be possible.

I'm really falling for the new ATS with the 2.0L turbo. The boys at Cadillac romanced me with their "Cadillac ATS - The Journey" series of videos. I love the current CTS with the 3.6L but I'm waiting to see how much backseat room the ATS has by comparison. Plus we'll have the 2013 XTS and 2014 CTS to look forward to! My next car will be a Cadillac (the wife loves them too), I just can't figure out which one it will be

The CTS is going to be moving up about half a size, isn't it? To compete more directly with the 5 series & E class?

GM is taking all of there first round of world class cars and is making them even better. This is awesome and very good news for GM fans. I will wait and see what the CTS has to offer but I have my heart set on an ATS.

It debuts on the XTS which is going into production within the next few months.

XTS, ATS, and 2013 SRX will get it this year. CTS won't get it until the 3rd gen arrives. Same with Escalade probably.

I just saw the ATS at the Chicago auto show. It didn't wow me at first but it grew on me quick. I got a look at the XTS as well but not a very long one because as soon as I walked up the lady started talking about the ATS so I went back over there. I can't wait to get a better look at both of them. The only concern I had about the ATS was some of the interior panel fit and finish but it is, after all, a pre production car.
