Corporate culture cares not a whit for the edification of those whom they expect to serve their bloated greed.

It only takes a few bright people (comparably) to lead the masses who are not so smart...

I teach these sorts of kids every day - I can promise you, there are some VERY bright young people currently smothered in the masses of them (^).

...fwiw

EDIT: Also should point out that is most likely a school project for a media productions class. Not bad.

Oh, I definately know that there are many who are very bright. I wouldn't be surprised if many similar answers were given back in 1980 when I was in High School.

I agree. These kids, like all of us, will learn a hell of alot more about the real world once they are out of college and expected to make a life of their own. They'll be learning it the hard way, but at least they will be learning.

"Utopia"

So what exactly are the schools teaching if this is what students know after 12 years in the system? I weep for the future too. As the country shifts even more away from manufacturing, and more toward jobs that require you work with your mind, I see a video filled with young people who seem likely to find themselves in a hard way in the real world.

The saddest part is, I bet most of them could name the 10 finalists for last year's American Idol, and recite whole episodes of Family Guy from memory.

Pffft!

My family has several brilliant young people in it.

I have one niece who's IQ is so high they had trouble measuring it. Another niece just passed the exams to be an RN (yesterday) and my nephew who had a 4.0 GPA just started training to repair jet engines.
Not bad at all.

But um... I do have quite a few more nieces and nephews who were... um... not mentioned for a reason...

I don't have kids of my own. (this is a good thing for the gene pool)

...And keep in mind, they would have edited out the brilliant answers. They were proving a point.

I will say that I was one of those people that knew this kind of thing at that age. I was aware of current politics, even at 14 (and younger). Didn't know everything, but a lot of that was due to parents and people around me that had fun learning all 50 states, capitals, countries, etc. Though people don't like to admit it, there's a bell curve that says that certain people are going to be smart, and others are going to be dumb as a brick. I figure (and hope), I'm somewhere in the middle upper area. Though I'm pretty certain I've done some dumb things too

I'm sure those kids who were answering the questions knew everything about Jersey Shore, Twilight and Justin Beiber though. Important stuff...
