I have kept OnStar and it would bother me to have my paid subscription to XM interupted to hear a commercial from OnStar, certainly not to the degree of the OP. Let them get away with a little infraction and before you know it, your commercial free devices will have.....commercials.

I think you're jumping the gun a little: it only happened once.

It is great for a back up emergency use and for piece of mind. But to answer your question I don't think that has anything to do with the call that was received. I have had onstar in a few of my vehicles and can't remember them ever calling me in the car.
Just a friendly warning. I also signed up for the cheap minutes. I wondered why they were so cheap considering its about 10x as much if you want to add more.

Here's the deal, you have to add a credit card in order to get the minutes. OnStar then takes the liberty of adding it to your account and setting it to auto renew. If you don't remove your credit card they will start billing you monthly after your 6 months is up (the whole onstar package not the minutes).

Its not a huge deal, I just asked them to please remove my credit card and they did so no problem.

I was just involved in an accident. I was basically "T boned" although my air bags didn't deploy I never got any one from Onstar to come on and ask if I'm ok. Is this a feature they do only if the bags deploy? I emailed them three days ago to inquire on this and haven't heard back from them.
So needless to say not too pleased with their response time and will be cancelling my plan soon as I can.

I'm with the OP on this one. I was driving along listening to the radio when a recorded voice boomed out about 3 times as loud as the music had been, or at least it seemed that loud. Since I don't use OnStar it startled the hell out of me. If it hadn't been for the seat belt I would have ruined my own top by jumping out through it. If it ever happened again I would have discontented the OnStar antenna or module, but it hasn't. By the time I got home, I found it to be funny rather than irritating but still don't think they should do that.

I have noticed something that seems a bit strange and that's the number of people here who sound personally defensive about OnStar any time someone criticizes it or brings up the subject of disconnecting it. I can understand why some people like it, but it's hard to understand why they get so pissed off at those who don't.

They called me the same way, I thought it was a good oportunity to ask some questions and ordered some minutes as a back up for when I leave my leash (cell phone) at home. They were extremely friendly and helpful and I continue to carry the safe and sound plan.

I can see how you might think it an inconvenience but seriously was it bad enough to warrant the rant?

When I got my camaro I got the same call from Onstar, it was around the week or so point of ownership, I listened as I was interested in the new upgraded features on the 2011 camaro (I had Onstar on older vehicles so I was not new to this), anyhow, I got one call, and one call only since.

Seriously? It was one call and under a minute long, and as I recall it gave you an opportunity to hang up and not listen rather quickly into the call. Also Satellite was billed as commercial free radio, and now they have commercials.

I let my onstar expire, and I don't use it at all, or want it. Just the other day I was listening to some MP3s and onstar came on with a commercial offering me a discount on re-upping... so I hit the on star button and talked to a rep. Told the, I was not interested ant to stop bugging me. The said they had a contract with GM to occasionally contact their customers with special offers..... WTF?

Guess its time to disconnect on star totally.

Just a little thing along these lines... we PAY good money for cable TV and get commercials all the time... we are paying $50 a month or so for commercials! But I agree, read my story above.

Well this morning I received a call from Onstar asking questions about my accident (guess they finally read my email). When I told them about the damage to my car and it would be in the shop for at least 26 days. They gave me another 4months coverage for free. So I guess I should be a bit happy. I only use the protection stuff anyways, I've never used the phone number with my account, and I live on an Island so I don't worry about directions. LOL

Well I didn't push the red button because I wasn't hurt and I was more Pissed off and not thinking. I have only used Onstar once since I have had my Camaro and it was for directions just for the hell of it. When the directions had me go totally out of my way to go to the Marine Corps base I work at. I decided at that time I wouldn't be paying for that feature any longer.
