Maybe I missed it in all the myriad of GT500 threads, but was the 650HP ever in question? Quite frankly, I think there is a chance it will officially come in higher than that. I remember back before the new GT500 was put into production they indicated it would have 450HP and it ended up with 500. (Personally, I wish it would have been over or under that number back then so there would not have been so many idiots running around thinking the 500 in GT500 had anything to do with the amount of power it made.)

Good job Ford. Cannot wait to see these on the road.

Who cares and this means????
They will still get outsold until the next gen Mustang comes out thats a gurantee. Not to mention the new C7 Corvette comes out next year with the new 5.5 Gen 5 V8 I would rather wait and buy that car it will be way faster or just wait for the updated ZL1 with more power the following year. I wonder what Ford will do once the Camaro weighs significantly less next gen and the weight is no longer an issue? You can only rely on weight as your only advantage against your competitors for so long once that is gone what advantage will they have left?

It just seems a lack of traction problems here for a car that isnt GM is automatically attributed to an inferior chassis, but when that car has traction its downplayed and attributed solely to the tires. Quote:
The GT doesnt rely SOLELY on weight. Look at what the stock and slightly modded ones are putting down compared to the Camaros. |

Awesome #s for sure. Straight line is in the bag. The only question now if the Gt500's upgraded suspension will be even better than the 2011-2012 SVT-pp equipped gt500 to make it an even more of a road course car to go after the ZL1. I am already impressed with the 2011-2012 SVT-pp GT500's keeping the CTSv, M3, 911s in rear view mirror.

But the only two points I ever try to make is: 1) When you approach these power levels...there's a tremendous amount of torque to deal with...Mustang could use some reinforcement to help cope with structural torsion, where the Camaro just uses a strut tower brace for good measure. 2) Without Mag Ride, an IRS, or the remarkably strong body, the Mustang is easily upset on the track - which is why I mentioned the Motor Trend article. And the only reason I wanted to make that point, was because we're talking about chassis integrity....yet straight-line traction was the only thing that seemed to be considered... |

I can't take part in a HPDE with a ZL1, like what Pfadt put on at the last Fest? Or I can't compete in a sanctioned professional event? Because I'm no professional. Just here to have some fun...

Like to play DA at time. Mag rid is cool but, current SCCA rules forbids it, open track days are cool, but I have only meet one person the bought a 40+ car that planed to RR it,(P.S. it was a Boss). I guess when Road and Track talks about racing it need to all be in prospective and yes I have done my fair share and paying the price as I age.
