When I was younger, many many years ago, I was the same way I could eat anything and I was always 165 lbs I was 6'2" of lean muscle. I would wear 29 x 36 jeans and then in my forties it all changed. Now at 57 I am at 177 lbs 6'2" of mostly (lol) lean muscle and wear 31 x 34. I can understand the 31" waste but what's up with the 34" inseam, I must be shrinking lol.

Shrinking hahahaha. Skip wears 30x30s so that means in 30 years he will be 28'' and that will make him shorter than me hahahahahah.

My Dad was the same way, think up until his 40s. He is still in good shape for his age. Got a little bit of a belly but he works out, rides horses and bikes like 50miles a few days a week.

I know my metabolism hates me, it will slow down any chance I give it. So I have to be strict.

[QUOTE=ablackburn99;4386214]Thanks for the advice!

For now i would only like to lift 2-3 times a week. My goal is to lose fat as fast as possible while maintaining muscle or grow a little. I don't like doing cardio, but i am in construction so some days i think I get more then enough.

Here is my diet so far today (tweaked it some). I still would like cycle my carbs and cal. some so I cant eat more on training days.

Same every 3 hours, 7 meals
Turkey/Whole wheat bread/Flaxseed oil

80 cal. c/100 cal. p/35 cal. f = 215 cal.

6 meals a day are ideal for men, 5 for women.

The cardio you get during routine work is calculated into your daily expendeture but whereas your body adapts to it it is not effective in reducing fat, cardio really is your ticket. Make it HIIT as I explained above and it will be short in time and helos in buiding muscle.

Calorie tappering can be done in different ways. the two methods I normally use would be to eat carbs earlier in the day and reduce them later in the day but it is important to eat carbs before and after your workouts and even sometimes during. This is how I normally eat

The other method I use when cutting is a bit more restrictive. Below is a typical days eating for me when cutting. This was posted a few weeks ago I am now at 177lbs.

Mt stats are

57 yrs old on 1/26/2012, I know I'm getting old lol.
6'2"
currently 180 lbs. I bulk to 185 and cut to 175, I am cutting now so it's reflected in my diet.

Weght training days

meal 1 1/2 cup oatmeal
1 whole egg
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 tbs flax seed or almonds
1/2 cup fat free milk
1/2 banana
1/4 cup strawberries

meal 2 3 egg whites and 1 whole egg hrd boiled
1 slice whole wheat bread

meal 3 pre workout shake 2 scoops protein powder 1 tbs dextrose

meal 4 post workout 5oz chicken breast 1 cup (cooked) brown rice
1 cup veggies

meal 5 Protein shake

Meal 6 shrimp and avacado salad

before bed snack low or no fat cottage cheese.

If you notice the last part of the day has almost no carbs

Cardio days

meal 1 veggie omlet 5 egg whites 1 whole egg

meal 2 protein shake

meal 3 pre cardio 1 scoop BCAA's with water

meal 4 post workout protein source (chicken, turkey lean meat etc.) an 1 cup veg.

meal 5 protein shake

meal 6 salad with protein source

before bed snack cottage cheese

notice that when cutting cardio days have very restricted carbs.

I use olive oil and avacardo's a lot, when I don't I suppliment with Udo's choice (omega 3 &6 fatty acids)

Everyone's body is different so ratio's can be adjusted accordingly but this type of diet typically works well for most

I am always talking about HIIT, obviously I believe in it. If I remember right the Helsinki institute in Sweden or someplace over there is one of the leaders in sports research and has extensive studies in HIIT. I will see if I can find one of there studies and post the results. This is not opinion but scientifically documented studies.

I believe in it. Heck its what made me look so kick ass in my bathing suit last year. Its why I do walk/jog/sprint intervals on the tread mill.

I goofed. Wrong study. The study I was referring to wasn't done by Helsinki and I haven't been able to find it but I'm sure if anyone's interested you can google it and see tons of studies. What I do know is that it is a tool I use along with others including steady cardio, they both have advantages and disadvantages. One thing to keep in mind though is that true HIIT is an advanced workout and is not for everyone, if you're cardiovascular system is not strong it may be to much can you say HEART ATTACK. So if you want to try it start out easy just as with any exercise routine and increase the intensity as your fitness level increases.

My heart rate always runs a steady 175, which is a little high for my age. I haven't died yet, though. I guess the age bracket and HR maximums are not an exact science for all people.

Well everyone, I usually post about exercise and nutrition and not so much motavation so I thought I would share this, it may be lengthy and it doesn't matter if anyone reads it as it is as much for my benefit as anyones. I got a call from my doctor's office saying that all my test results are back and everything is normal, actually everything looks great so I was looking forward to start back at my single digit body fat % goal, which obviously didn't happen by my birthday but no biggie, it will just take a little longer than planned. Any how I was shaving this mornning and noticed in the mirror that my arms looked puny as compared to a little more than a week ago before everything started. I was bummed, I have been training real hard and it seems all for not. I decided to hop on the eliptical for 20 min and start to get back into the swing of things and 5 min in I was thinking what the heck am I busting my balls for, single % body fat is a lot of work for someone of my age and it's getting harder everytime I do it. Honestly I was ready to jump off and quit but said, ya know I started let me finish this session. Well 20 min in I pushed myself (mentally) to do a bit more and ended up doing 33 min. I went to take a shower and again notice my arms in the mirror and I am pummped again. I then decided that Monday I will start my lifting again and at least get back to where I was which shouldn't take long. I then realized something that I know but lost sight of. Long term goals( Like the one I have) can sometimes be overwelming but the short term goals I set are reatively easy. What I'm trying to say is DO NOT loose sight of your long term goals but Focus on your short term ones, in the end you are moving in the right direction. With that said wait untill you see me when I'm 58, I'm gonna be ripped!!!!

What do you guyys think about juice fasting? I watched a documentary recently on Netflix called Fat and almost dead where this guy fasted on nothing but juiced fruit and veggies for like 60 days straight and it was due to his desire to finally tackle his weight issue (300+ Lbs) and try and get off of the drugs he was taking to combat health issues he had. His philosophy was that if the body can heal itself on the outside it can heal itself on the inside as long as you put the right things in it. so he used the Juice fast to kick start his system and it worked. He got off all the meds and lost close to 100 Lbs in the 60 days. He was checked by his Dr the whole way to make sure he was ok. Well long story short, i decided that i would try it too and i have been juicing for 23 days straight so far and i have gone from 278 to 253 so far and i feel a lot better too. Whats you guys thoughts on this? I really think you should try to watch the documentary before you blast it.
