If this one even comes close to how fun it was to drive the old Corolla GT-S's, I will be very happy with it (well if it's around the right price).

I had an '88 Toyota truck with the 22R. Great engine.

If you are referring to the RWD, light, tossable Cellicas of the early/mid 80s, sure, if you are comparing this car to that last FWD abomination, please give up your license to claim you are a non biased automotive enthusiast.........

A lot of hate for this car here. I guess you guys don't really like "drivers cars", because this is probably going to be about the best one you can buy for the price. I'd love to see one of the domestics follow Toyota/Subaru's lead in this regard.

Not liking the new subaru and scion based FT at all. The inside look very cheap and plastic, and the rear to me look ugly with the exception of the front. The boxer layout power train look very good and it look like it will give the miata's run for their money. The price look like it will be around mid 25 to high 20's which I won't even consider. Around that price point you can get a WRX or even a ralliart lancer which is basically the same as the evo with the same exact engine but with smaller turbo and intercooler and couple small suspension difference. Just not digging it.

I was always a big fan of the Supra particularly the 1994-97 turbo. If they bring back the Supra (LFA w/ Toyota badges) my Camaro would more than likely be found for sale on a Toyota lot.

The starting price is right between the speculated starting price of the Subaru model. If it makes it up to $38,000 - then yes, that is absurd pricing, and regardless of its merits is not a performance bargain (or even a good deal) to be honest.

Why are you passively judging that I don't think it could be a fun car just because I think it is laughably expensive? I wish I cared enough to respond to everyone's little quips...You are doing some car-god work worthy of martyrdom.

In response to the whole driver's car thing. It is sort of like firearms - start with a .22 until you get a hold of things - then you move up.

That does not translate to US prices. Japanese prices directly exchanged are always higher. Look how much a lancer or impreza costs over there when converted to dollars.

if the reports about the BRZ being 24k end up being true, then I could easily see a nice FR-S being 23k, which I don't think would be overpriced at all for it. Of course, there will more than likely be an overpriced model offered.

as stated by others, cannot just directly convert price over from japanese price.

Well, never said at 38k it would be a bargain at the 24k starting price for the BRZ (which includes navigation, etc), it surely is. Please see below for pricing.

Quote:
Subaru BRZ should go on sale in May 2012
Starting price around $24k for Premium and about $27k for Limited.
BRZ Premium model which includes standard navigation, eight-speaker audio, soft touch dash, limited slip differential, leather-wrapped steering wheel (tilt-telescopic), shift knob and e-brake lever, six-speed manual, aluminum pedal covers and cruise control, among other standard features.
BRZ Limited model adds leather seats with Alcantara trim, fog lamps, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch rims and vented discs (16" front, 15" rear)
Subaru expects sales of 3-4K units/yr
According to Subaru a key difference between BRZ and Toyota 86/Scion FR-S are firmer front and softer rear spring rates for the BRZ
BRZ weighs 2770 lbs (although Subaru BRZ press release says 2684 lbs)
Makes 200hp@7000rpm and 150lb-ft@64-6600rpm. Redline is 7450 (fuel cutoff)

the Scion version should be even cheaper.
