Hello all .. Leaving for basic training soon .. doing research
Hello all,
My name is Kyle and around July of last year after turning 22, I decided to join the Air Force as College wasn't really working for me (Couldn't decide on a major) and the job situation really was no better. I am leaving for BMT on March 27th and due to my decision, I sold all of my "toys" for now, paid off nearly all of my debt, and want to start "fresh" later on in 2012 once I get stationed. In light of all this, for now while I wait, I decided to do some research and learn about what vehicle I'd like to pick up next. Pretty much for the last 7 years, my hobby has been strictly cars, and then motorcycles. Back in 09', I joined these forums with the intent to one day own a Camaro. Now, it's on my short list of possible buys once I get stationed. When I turned 16, I bought myself a new Hyundai Tiburon 2.7L .. I was young, thought body kits, lambo doors and altezza taillights were cool. My mindset quickly changed, and I tried making an "N/A Beast" with it. Granted, the 2.7L really couldn't ever be considered a beast. This is a video of how the car was when I sold it: I sold it because I really wanted a V8 RWD. I hated FWD at that point, I felt out of place going to Adirondack Nationals every year with it, so I bought a car that I really enjoyed - a 2004 Pontiac GTO. I had fun with the GTO for only about 1.5 years and then sold it. Installing headers caused a CEL, so I bought a cam for it and was gonna have it tuned all at once, but then I started getting involved in motorcycles, so I got a 96' Crown Vic as a beater, sold the GTO and bought myself a couple of motorcycles. Had fun with motorcycles for a couple years (Had a 97' CBR900RR, 06' ZX6R, 11' Z1000) but recently sold my final bike because I really won't have any time to ride. I hear when you get stationed, you can have 1 vehicle on base, so a motorcycle is pretty much out of the question (At least probably for the next couple years or so till I can live off base). Which then meant, I want to get back into cars. So, the top 3 choices in my head right now would be a low mileage Camaro 1SS or 2SS, new/newer Dodge Challenger R/T (6MT), or a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8L I'd like another V8 muscle car, so I'm really siding towards the Camaro or Challenger, and that's why I am here - to read and learn. Sorry for the long intro, hope it was worth your time. Regards, Kyle |

Welcome and Thank you!
I just bought my Camaro last week a 2SS/RS and I am a car guy too my list of vehicles I have owned is extensive a small sample 280Z, 300ZX, 65 & 67 Malibu SS, S2000, 71 Blazer, 99 Grand Am GT, Prelude, 02 Trans Am and the list goes on and on, anyway I wanted to say out of all those vehicles the Camaro is by far my favorite for a daily driver. That's really saying something because I loved my 67 Malibu SS! So my vote is definately the camaro and get the 2SS with HUD, leather and the extra gauges some of my favorite features. |

Thank you folks for the warm welcome.
Teamradrz, I would definitely be on the look-out for a 2SS when it comes time to buy, it'll all come down to price though. Doing some preliminary calculations, I think $30k would be absolute max I can spend on a car. It's gonna be a, "wait and see whats available when the time comes" kinda thing I think.

Kyle, well I guess you'll be in my neck of the woods soon, seeing as how BOOT for the Air Force is in San Antonio......and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.
![]() oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!
