image sizing for my digital camera? need help
Hey all, so i finally opened my digital camera its a sony cybershot and i got confused once i saw photo sizing options. It was standard set on the 4:3 13x19 inch 14M until i looked at the size of the prints it says and figured that was not the normal size i would be printing. So i switched it to 4:3 4x6 up to 8x10 inch 5M. (this also gave me close to 500 more photo room). Is this the correct sizing i would want to take these pictures with to print normal size pictures and also be able to upload them to facebook and on here normal? here is the list of the sizing options on the camera in order.
4:3 13x19 inch 14M. 4:3 13x19 inch 10M. 4:3 4x6 up to 8x10 inch 5M. 4:3 small size e-mail attachments. 16:9 11x17 inch and viewing on HDTV 11M. 16:9 viewing on HDTV 2M. Thanks all. btw jw. what does the 4:3 etc mean and the M stand for?

4:3 is the aspect ratio (a ratio like 4 inches width to 3 inches height). Sort of like how HD TV's these days have a 16:9 aspect ration (wide screen). Unless you're running out of space often on your memory card, it's not a bad thing to take pictures or video at the highest resolution the camera does. From there, you can always edit the resolution and other things with a good photo editing program. I use Photoshop, however there are free programs like GIMP that will allow you to edit and do most everything you can do in Photoshop.

If you have microsoft office picture manager just open a pic, click on edit pictures at the top of the page, then click resize on the side of the page, then adjust the size to whatever is needed for the particular application. Facebook and most places on C5 will adjust the pics for you but it takes a bit longer to download. For most places & for the garage on C5 reducing to 72% will work. Like the other poster said, high resolution for taking pics is best then you can print, enlarge, reduce from there. I had a very hard time trying to figure out all that stuff on my own but members of C5 told me how to do it. Hope that helps.

i do not have any knowledge as to how to resize pics or use any programs. i just plan on taking out my memory card and bringing to walgreens and print them. if i used that standard setting of 4:3 13x19 inch 14M, would the pictures still print normal size and upload fine?

The biggest issue with the different image sizes is memory. If your camera runs out often or you plan on storing a lot of pictures on the camera, then smaller pictures would be helpful. There's nothing wrong with having the most detailed settings on the camera though, as that will allow for more options later on.
