My mistake, 6" can be used on top. Any darkness can be used for back window, but everything else can't be any darker than 70%. Which is crazy talk. If you get 70%, you can't even tell your windows are tinted. Mine are 35%.

Which isn't hard to find a first offense. On another note not all Police pull you for tint "because they are bored". Dark tint is dangerous to a Police Officer as he can not see what's going on in a car when he approaches. Even though you may not think you are a threat well he don't know you just like you don't know him. So noone should get their panties in bunch when they get pulled for tint.

I would leave it until the next time...then and only then remove the windshield tint or go with 50%.

I have always had dark tint on my cars EXCEPT my Red SS, it just seems to attract LEO'S, I feel like they give me the stink eye every time I pass them.

I agree with you partially on this...that's why when I get pulled over, I roll all of my windows down, turn on the flashers, turn on all dome and map lights...I don't want to give them any hint of trouble.

Try not to take this wrong, but why have tint on whole front window? i can see 6" for sunglare. Same for side front windows..a little lighter would be probably in your best interest and the Police who pull you over.. i know you have had this on for many many years, but its a new generation now of weary cops..no knowing whats behind that tint.
good luck with your decison..

I was just about to comment on that 6" of tint from the top of the windshield. I don't know if its even that much though. But yes windows come from the factory tinted, so any tint put over that is illegal in NYS. I've ran all my vehicles with 20% and funny enough I have only ever been pulled over in my tuner cars for it.

As an LEO the law on tint is foolish, you can have your rear window/trunk totally tinted or even vinyl covered. Same with your rear passenger windows. The only windows not to be covered are the front driver and passengers. The high risk area's are the trunk & unseen rear passengers. You know someone is driving the damn car. And you know if you have tint it's just as hard to see out of it at night as it is to see in. Plus spot lights and maglights work wonders.

Anyway OP, just pay your fine lol, you got caught, take it on the chin. I'd def strip that 35 off the windshield though.

Or go to your Optometrist and get a slip saying you need tint on your vehicle because sunlight causes you severe headaches etc ....

I chance it everyday. I have 20% all around and a 8" brow. I also have my headlights blacked out and plan to black oug the tail lights and side markers as well. They dont seem to care where I live. Ive always had tint. I did get a tint ticket in my bf's charger for having 20% while traveling thru GA. $200 bucks and his car is still tinted the same.

I have 20% all around and a 5% brow, but in Arkansas they don't care.

Remove the windshield tint. Without that, they won't bother you, I imagine.

that sucks. I have 35% on my windows and nothing on the windshield. I would have liked them darker, but the window tint shop actually would not do anything darker because they said it was illegal and the cops have been cracking down on window tint lately. It looks nice nonetheless.

I just scheduled my appointment for tomorrow to get my 2012 done - last time the front window tint only lasted a month, hope it lasts longer this time around.

It annoys the bejeezus out of me that I got pulled over for 35% tint on my front windows on my 1994 Camaro yet the Macomb County Sheriff rides around in a Charger with limo tint on all the glass - can't see into his car at all, yet you could clearly see into my car with the 35% tint. :(
