my MAME arcade system! comments welcome :)

this plays all my old classics; atari nes snes genisis mame and xbox it does it all!!!!! I went with the modded xbox running the latest XBMC software rather then the pc route because 1) I didn't want a keyboard and mouse in there and 2) I wanted it to play all the modern fighters too so the xbox hard ware is the best route IMO. What do ya think? Anyone else on here make one?

I have that on my xbox but not in a big arcade housing like you. That is super cool. I would love that. Looks good. Plus it is cheaper than going the computer route. Nice work.

It is so cool to have it in a standup arcade system like that.

I even managed to get the coin doors to light, and even made it so you can put in a quarter and it registers in MAME.

I went the computer route. I had a nice old P4 3ghz system that worked real good.
Never had the xbox.

Very nice! This is great. I was just talking to my wife about these things and the MAME emulator. (Come to think of it, I think SHE actually started with the suggestion that it would be cool to have an arcade game in the house!)

This is running off a modded original Xbox, right? I put a chip in mine way back in the day and its been collecting dust for years now. Might be a good project. Did you follow a tutorial? How are the buttons wired up, did you just solder them to the contacts on an xbox controller or does someone make a setup that would plug right in?

Details man, details!

Oh and did you just buy an old MK case to put it in, or did you build it and just get the title thing to put up there? I was reading a tutorial and someone built the entire thing out of mdf and bough coin slots and stuff to make it look authentic.

What did the case set you back if you don't mind?

Very nice cab set up v8r.

The only thing I personally would change are the sticks/buttons. Can't stand american joystick parts.

Sanwa/Seimitsu ftw.

Yes the wheels lock.

They were left over from my commercial shelving unit I have in the other room.

In my case I used an old Golden Tee Arcade Cabinet, a furniture drawer, and the Xarcade controller. I also used a photo matte piece for the bezel around my screen.

I also wired up the power switch to a push button on the outside of the case, and have a smart power strip power the marquee, and the computer monitor.

You can even drop quarters in and they work. Funny this is look at what the coin slots say.

Nice setup, I have a Indy Heat cabinet I bought for $100, I have it stripped down right now, got all my buttons for 4 players and a trackball already too. I'm making my own control panel and will be putting LED's in the buttons to get them to light up. I just have to fix some of the imperfections on the cabinet first. Unfortunately I'm preparing to move so I'm kinda stuck on this project right now. BTW, I'm going the PC route. I know of a great community of people in the MAME area if anybody is interested in making their own.

I bought a VGA adapter off ebay, and for the controller, it is made by X-Arcade and it hooks right into the xbox. I found a empty Cabinet of craigslist, the MAME disc I got from www.thepiratebay.org the internet is your friend on this project thousands of people have done a mame system and tons of info is on the web.
