Reason for a muscle car

Just a thought. With the GOVERNMENT seemingly having more control over car makers, almost on a day by day basis, will any of us even be able to buy a car like this in a few years? I remain concerned that the Socialist Republic of America will ban cars like the Camaro and dictate my choices. Anyone else feel this way??

yes i wouldnt be surprised if Obama would prevent GM from creating a z28, and then keep setting strict MPG standards to the point where it will be unprofitable for GM to make muscle cars.

I don't...it's a silly thing to think for multiple reasons:

1: The government has increased influence over the automakers BUSINESS policies...because they loaned them money...very simple concept. I don't like it -- but that's the way it is: If you borrow money from someone, and you're not the best person with money -- said "someone" should be able to guide how you spend that money, no?

2: Despite the above; They have no control over the specific vehicles they make...let me repeat that: The Government cannot dicate what specific vehicles the car companies make. The most they can do is influence trends through standards and laws like CAFE. Even that is on a fleet-wide basis, and not individual cars. (again, not that I like it...)

3: "Socialist"...has got to be the most overplayed fear-tactic running today. Do yourself a favor and rise above such petty fear-mongering...

4: The Camaro is safe for some time to come. You don't develop a hot-selling new vehicle and then cancel it. Besides, it's majority-of-sales model gets 29mpg, the same mileage as their best-selling sedan. What logical reason is there to cancel the car?

EDIT: Also, please keep political comments to a minimum. Thanks.

And to add to that, a lot of people need to look up what terms like socialism, communism, capitalism, dictatorship, democracy, and republic actually mean before they start erroneously tossing them around.

Yeeeaaah....no. Sweden is what would be considered "socialistic" over in the USA, and we don't have a ban on muscle cars. We quite like them a bunch of us.

Muscle cars will not go. the only thing that will change is the definition of muscle. ( smaller V8's or more use of forced induction) and lighter cars!!!!

Didn't the Federal government just fire a CEO? That would create some pretty strong implicit control of what kind of cars get green lighted.

You beat me to it, so I'll have to suggest free market since very few people seem to remember what that means or looks like.

Actually...they didn't. Not technically. As part of further loans (the 60-day thing), the auto task force felt Wagoner needed to go as he wasn't making any meaningful progress in x amount of days, and so asked for his resignation...though they did leave him with a healthy going-away present...

Anyways -- normally, I'd agree with your point...but the guy who replaced him was virtually hand-picked by Wagoner...I think he knew something like this was going to happen...so they promoted Fritz to next-in-charge right as it was hitting the fan...hardly the influencial, government-sympathizing person I would have picked.....
