What about something that can probably happen like a new black plague? Prepare yourselves by doing what?

I have spent so much time on this, that it's not even funny. Some people think that this plan is a joke, but in reality, a 'zombie survival plan' can really easily be a 'the world goes to shit survival plan.'
I at the absolute edge of the city, no more development out my way for at least the next 25 years, so I'm in about the safest area of a city you possibly could live. My 'Fortress' is about a 5 minute walk from my house, and it is I shit you not, a mental hospital/prison built in the 1930's. Not only does it have double chain link fence around it, but also actual 10-12 foot high concrete walls with steel gate doors. I walk in, let the crazies out, or kill them and I have a fortress all to myself. The Asylum is literally on top of a hill and a river is right behind it. The city gets its water from the river, but worst comes to worst, it is super easy to make a charcoal filter and boil the water, so the biggest survival requirement is taken care of. As far as food goes, about a 20 minute walk/ 5 minute drive from my house ( Always good to think of things in walking terms because roads could be jammed with wrecks or you could be out of gas, or EMP could render any new car useless,) there is a 'Bulk Barn.' Walk in, buy/ take as much dry rice and flour and all that stuff as you can carry/ load in the back of my truck and you are set for a long time. (Bulk Barns are good places to know the location of because in lots of disasters, the grocery stores get robbed first, but many people don't even start to think about bulk/dry goods; which are MUCH more useful and practical in a survival setting.) EDIT: Oh yeah and my wife's a pharmacist. So if the world went to shit and the rules didn't count anymore, I have access to any sort of medications that you could possibly need, and she knows what drug to use and how much for pretty much any situation. And then if I really needed guns or crossbows, they are building a brand new Cabella's about 10 mins from my house, maybe 12 minutes walk from the Asylum. I am not a big believer in guns, because I think that the zombies would go rotten and fall apart in about 6 months. I would more or less just lay low and wait for all the Zacks to rot apart. |

Seeing as money will no longer be part of reality. I will go to home depot or lowes and add an assorted amount of wood and metal sheets. From their on i would add and fix up my car for zombie status. Then i would cover all of the possible entree points with in my house and i would steal a large amount of liquor for Molotav ****tails. I would also find a air compressor and a solar system. Instead of worrying amount cleaning my gun. an air powered molotav launcher wouldn't be that bad.
Finally I would drive north taking the route 66 to either california or newyork. From their i would pick up others and make a caravan finally hijacking a boat. (A ferry would be a good choice due to the storage area for vehicles, and mass storage space. that or a sail boat.) I would float around following the coast line north and south going ashore only for essentials for short amount of times.

Theres plenty of options out there, I would most likely hold down my property unless it got hairy, then Id get out quick.
I live on 15 acres in the country, could make a couple trips to get supplies and ammo, then im sure it would be too hard to get into the city after the first day or so. If they got to my property, id just pack up and leave in a hurry, in a truck or suv. My fiance's FJ Cruiser is already good to go, V6 so it has good MPG, grill guard, off road package, roof rack, plenty of space inside. Plus we have a trailer and can bring a horse if need be in case gas gets too low. Would have to continue scavenging for food. Eventually the zombies would die of starvation, the disease would be cured, or the military would do a good enough job clearing them out. I wouldnt think we'd have to be on the run too long. Ive done without power, clean water, and food for a while with the hurricanes, as well as living out of a car. One thing is for sure, Ive always told my fiance that she needs to get her act together, cause if one thing will kill me in a zombie apocalypse, its her. Elderly, women, and children, if you have any you have to make sure you are thinking ahead. Edit: Taintedveins ^up there has a good idea about a boat/ferry |

If you have plenty of guns and ammo, you can get everything else you need.

To answer this question honestly would violate my own personal OPSEC....
But really, the main thing is mobility, mobility, mobility. I like what Will Smith did in I Am Legend, but I think that the idea of daytime being zombie safe is a bit too... dreamy. Take only what you can carry. Scavenge for the rest. Eat light, and in small spurts. Take vehicles only if you KNOW you can arrive in an urban area. Find radios, set up loops for other other survivors to find safety in numbers - or as a way to distract -> Be aware of roving bands/gangs. Sadly, being alone might be a best bet. Personally... I'm looking for a boat and putting water between me and zombies.

Oh yeah, and "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z" both by Max Brooks are pretty much required reading.

Honestly, and unfortunately, I think that other humans would be as big of a threat as the Zombies.
I really do believe that if you aren't prepared beforehand you are in DEEP doodoo. The cardio might have been a joke, might not, but it's so true. A Zombie appocolypse would REALLY suck with a family. I'd prefer to be alone. With a family you better get high, or get surrounded by water and HOPE that zombies can't walk under water. Obviously if you get high (you know what I mean, lol) you better have lots of water and food. LAST thing you want is to get pinned in. So I'd try and find a place that is out in the boonies so as to not draw the attention of zombies. But there are a lot of variables that I'd want to know. Like............. What attracts Zombies? How do you kill them? How fast are they? How smart are they? How strong are they? And remember that everyone else is trying to survive too. So your Wal-Mart, or whatever other popular place you find, strategically sound or not, you may have to fight for. My house is definitely NOT a good hold up. I assume any roof is ok but like I said, you don't want to get pinned in. And you will be visible there. So if you get caught on or in a home you are probably ****ed. And if you get surrounded;

First off, we need to know what type of zombies we are dealing with. Is it like Zombieland zombies (very stereotypical) or 28 Days Later zombies (basically super zombies: can run fast). What I would do depends on the type of zombie.
