That's correct.

If you choose the school for the first offense all you have to pay is for the cost of the class which i think is $50 here. But if you get caught doing any moving violation within that time frame, you now have to pay the fines that you avoided by choosing the class plus any points associated with the first offense.

For example, a speeding ticket in the county I live in is $200. If you choose the class you only have to pay the $50 for the class but if you get caught with another moving violation within 5 years you now have to pay the $200 that you avoided the first time (assuming the fine doesn't increase). So if your second violation was another speeding ticket your second ticket would now be $400.

The class also does not prevent the ticket from showing up on your insurance which is something the court does not tell you so your insurance will still go up.

I figured it was something along those lines... I was going to say something like that bit couldn't think of a way to say it like an ***hole so I gave up.

Yup, you got Deferred Disposition. The ticket hasn't been dismissed yet. Here in Texas, if you can make it through the probation period, nothing happens. Insurance never knows, and nothing goes on your permanent record.

The judge was nice if you didn't even ask for it.

Wow that's cool. Out here in CA traffic school is only used to keep the citation off your driving record so your insurance wont go up but it has absolutely nothing to do with the fine that all guilty party's have to pay on your court date. If your ticket is for $200 and you want traffic school you have to pay the courts $200 + $30 for the school option that day and then the $40 or so for school once you attend.

So if you promise the judge that you will go to traffic school he will suspend your entire fine just as long as you dont get another ticket in 5 years.

yea i think my problem is i am too nice, i will just agree to anythin an officer says. I need to b a little more assertive but stil be respectfull. Im going to google on how to talk to law enforcement, to protect my rights, to not dig a deeper hole, but to still be very nice and respectfull.

Now let's see what happens to your insurance rates. Don't tell your insurance you got a ticket...they'll find it soon enough in the next 6mo to 1yr.

yeah i am on 90 days probation, so u can bet your camaro that i will not do anything at all to risk getting pulled over again. But one thing the judge said is that this will not show up on my driving record, or report it to mvd. So if they dont report it, my insurance will not find out about it

yes. When i got there, the secretary at the front desk, said why am i here early, i told her the officer said i can go before my court date. And she seemed annoyed and said she hates when officers say that, she then asked if i would like to settle it right now and i said yes and waited what seemed to be the longest 15 min of my life, and got it taken care of

Yes the judge told me all this straight up before i ever said 1 word and i agreed to it. And this judge was very very nice, nice attitude and was being respectfull, never expected that.

So did you make it to work on time?

I kid...you accepted responsibility for your actions, and although it's not always the right thing to do in a legal protection sense, sounds like the judge appreciated you taking ownership for what you did.

Don't take risks on the street...it's something all of us gear heads should remind ourselves of daily.

You need to be removed from the road. We'd all be better off.

Sounds important enough to get a lawyer. That's your best chance to get charges reduced. Looks like you were cooperative. That helps. Personalized plates that suggest this style of driving is normal for you won't help. It may be worth noting he did not fill in the posted speed limit box either. You are going to pay dearly but a traffic lawyer may be able to plead you down to fewer points on the argument your job is in jeopardy. Expect probation.
